Features and Advantages of the Airport
Main Gateway to the Ocean. Gunungsitoli Airport is the key arrival point for surfers heading to Lagundri Bay and Sorake Beach — locations ranked among the top ten surf spots in the world. Thanks to the airport's proximity, reaching the coast is relatively quick, which is particularly appreciated by athletes travelling with equipment.
Compactness and Speed. The small size of the terminal works in the passengers' favour: it is practically impossible to get lost here, and check-in and baggage claim procedures are significantly faster than in major hubs. The staff are generally friendly and ready to assist, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Developing Infrastructure. Following a major reconstruction, the runway was extended to 2,250 metres, allowing for the accommodation of larger narrow-body aircraft, such as the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 (although turboprop ATRs fly here more frequently). The new passenger terminal has become more comfortable, offering travellers the basic amenities necessary for waiting for a flight.
Scenic Approach. Since the airport is located in a coastal zone, passengers are often treated to breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and the lush tropical greenery of Nias Island during the approach. This is an excellent opportunity to capture the first beautiful shots of your journey right from the aircraft window.
