Getting to Kume-jima Airport (UEO), located on the picturesque island of Kumejima in Japan, is quite simple thanks to the island's compact size. Major transport options connect the airport with main settlements, hotels, and beaches, making the journey convenient and fast.
Public Transport. The most economical way to move around the island is the town bus (Kumejima Town Bus). Bus routes cover key points, including the Kanegusuku Ferry Terminal, Eef town, and the famous Eef Beach. The trip from central areas to the airport usually takes 15-25 minutes. The schedule is often synchronised with flight arrivals and departures, but it is always useful to check current information in advance, as the frequency of service may not be high.
Taxi and Transfer. For maximum comfort and speed, you can use a taxi. The stand is located right outside the arrival terminal exit. A trip to major hotels or Eef Beach will take approximately 10-20 minutes. This is a more expensive option compared to the bus, but it is ideal if you are travelling with bulky luggage, family, or simply value convenience. Some hotels also offer pre-booked transfer services for their guests.
Car Rental. Renting a car is the best choice for those planning to actively explore the island and not depend on public transport schedules. Several rental agencies have offices at the airport or nearby, offering transfers to them. It is recommended to book a car in advance, especially during the high tourist season. To rent a car, most international tourists will need an International Driving Permit (IDP). Traffic on the island is calm, making driving pleasant.
Airport Parking. For those arriving at the airport in their own or rented vehicle, parking is provided. It is located in immediate proximity to the terminal building. Given the size of the airport, parking is usually free and there are always enough vacant spaces.
