Toliara, often referred to as the "City of the Sun", welcomes travellers with a hot and arid tropical climate. Located on the south-west coast of Madagascar, this city is famous for its abundance of sunny days and high temperatures throughout the year. Cold weather is practically non-existent here, making the resort an attractive destination for lovers of beach holidays and the warm ocean, regardless of the calendar.

The weather in the region can be roughly divided into two seasons. The hot period lasts from November to March, when the thermometer regularly rises above +30°C, and the number of rainy days increases, bringing brief freshness. From April to October, a drier and moderately warm season sets in: the heat subsides to a pleasant +22...+26°C, and the sky remains clear. It is particularly noteworthy that in the winter months of the Southern Hemisphere (from June to August), precipitation is almost completely absent, providing ideal conditions for excursions.

Toliara's climate can be described as hot and arid, making this city in south-west Madagascar an attractive destination for sun lovers all year round. The hottest period falls during the local summer, lasting from December to February. During these months, the average temperature holds at 28°C, and daily highs regularly exceed 31°C. This time of year is also characterized by the highest number of rainy days; however, precipitation is usually short-lived and does not interfere with your holiday.

The austral winter, which occurs here from June to August, brings long-awaited freshness and is the driest period of the year. At this time, the average temperature drops to a comfortable 22–23°C. July usually becomes the coolest month: during the day the air warms up to a pleasant 26°C, which is ideal for excursions and long walks when there is no exhausting heat.

Travellers should consider noticeable daily temperature fluctuations, especially during the winter season. The difference between daytime warmth and night-time coolness can be about 7–8 degrees. For example, if on a June day you are enjoying temperatures around 27°C, then at night the thermometer may drop to 19°C. Such "freshness" after sunset makes for comfortable sleep, but light outerwear may be required for evening walks by the ocean.

Toliara is distinguished by an arid and hot climate, so precipitation here is a fairly rare occurrence and low in volume. Unlike many other tropical regions, there is no monsoon rain season here that could spoil your holiday. Even in the "wettest" months, the total amount of rainfall remains minimal, making this city one of the sunniest corners of Madagascar.

The nominal rainy season falls in the period from December to February. Statistics show that in January and February there can be up to 12–13 days with precipitation, but do not let this figure scare you. The total volume of moisture falling in these months is only 3–4 mm, which indicates the nature of the precipitation: it is most likely a short-lived light drizzle or rare drops that quickly evaporate under the hot sun, rather than prolonged tropical downpours.

The dry season lasts from May to October and is characterized by an almost complete absence of rain. During this period, especially from June to September, the amount of precipitation tends towards zero, and rainy days happen extremely rarely — no more than once a month or are absent altogether, as often happens in September. This is the ideal time for those looking for guaranteed clear weather and cloudless skies.

Toliara is known for its hot and arid climate, so the basis of your luggage should be light summer clothing made from natural breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen. Considering that the sun is active here all year round and the number of rainy days is minimal, protection against UV radiation should be the main priority. Be sure to take a sunscreen with a high SPF, high-quality sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat that will protect you from overheating during walks.

Although the temperature remains high during the day at any time of year, in the period from June to August (austral winter), nights can be quite cool, with temperatures around +18°C. For evening outings during this season, we recommend using the layering principle: bring a light windbreaker, cardigan, or long-sleeved shirt. It is also worth taking care of comfortable, closed-toe shoes for excursions, as the terrain can be dusty and rocky.

Precipitation in this region is extremely scarce — even in the wettest month, only a few millimetres of rain fall, so you definitely won't need heavy raincoats and rubber boots. However, if you are travelling in January or February, when the probability of short showers is slightly higher, you can take a compact umbrella or a light raincoat. Don't forget swimwear, as the hot weather is perfect for relaxing by the water.
