Current Weather

Planning a trip to Córdoba? In this section, you will find the most up-to-date weather data and detailed forecasts to help you perfectly plan every day of your stay in Mexico.

Overview

Córdoba, located in the picturesque state of Veracruz, boasts a charming tropical savanna climate. Thanks to its location in the mountainous region of Mexico, the city treats travelers to more moderate and comfortable temperatures than the sweltering coastal areas. Two main periods are clearly defined here: the dry season and the rainy season, each of which gives the city a special charm.

Pleasant warmth persists throughout the year, with temperatures typically ranging from 12°C to 32°C. The best time to visit is from November to April—during this period, rain is rare and the sky is often bright and sunny. These are ideal conditions for long walks along historic streets and discovering the local culture.

An important feature of the climate is high humidity, especially from May to October. However, it is precisely because of this that the nature around the city is stunning with its lush greenery and abundance of flowers, making Córdoba one of the "greenest" cities in the region.

Temperature

Temperatures in Córdoba are remarkably consistent, though there are nuances depending on the season. The hottest time of year is traditionally April and May, when daytime highs can reach +27°C to +32°C. You can truly feel the tropical breath during these months, although the proximity of the mountains slightly softens the heat compared to the coast.

Winter months, such as December and January, bring a refreshing coolness. During this period, nighttime temperatures can drop to +11°C to +12°C, while the sun warms the air to a comfortable +20°C during the day. Such daily fluctuations make the weather extremely pleasant: you can walk in light clothing during the day and enjoy a healthy night's sleep in the cool air.

In summer and autumn, despite frequent precipitation, the average air temperature remains stable at around +20°C to +21°C. Due to high humidity during the rainy season, the weather can feel warmer, creating the "eternal spring" atmosphere characteristic of Mexico's moderate altitudes. This time of year is excellent for those who prefer to avoid intense heat.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Córdoba follows a strict seasonal schedule. The rainy season begins in May and lasts until October, turning the city's surroundings into an emerald jungle. Humidity peaks in June and September, when rainfall reaches its maximum (over 230–290 mm per month), and there can be up to 24–25 rainy days in a month. These are usually intense tropical downpours, often followed by sunshine.

In contrast to the wet summer, the dry season (from November to April) offers tourists many more clear days. February and March are considered the "driest" months, with rainfall dropping below 100 mm. During this time, the chance of getting caught in prolonged rain is minimal, making the period ideal for outdoor activities.

It is important to note that because of the city's tropical location, it never snows in Córdoba. Instead, light cloud cover or morning mists may occur in the winter months, giving the mountain landscapes a mysterious and romantic look. Humidity remains high throughout most of the year, reaching its peak (with up to a 100% chance of rain on certain days) in the height of summer.

Packing Tips

When packing for Córdoba, you should follow the principle of layering. Light clothing made of natural fabrics such as cotton or linen is ideal for daytime walks at any time of year. However, don't forget to bring a light sweater or windbreaker—due to the mountain terrain, evenings can be quite chilly, especially from November to March when temperatures drop significantly to +12°C after sunset.

If your trip is planned for the rainy season (May–October), a compact umbrella or high-quality raincoat, as well as quick-drying clothes, are essential. Insect repellent is also recommended, as the humidity encourages insect activity. Regardless of the season, be sure to bring comfortable shoes with good tread—they will serve you well on both the city's cobbled streets and during excursions into the mountains.

Pay special attention to sun protection. Due to the high UV index in Mexico, sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses are necessary even on days when the sky is overcast. Such a well-thought-out wardrobe will allow you to feel comfortable and enjoy the beauty of the city in any weather.
