Marrakech, located in Morocco, is characterized by a dry subtropical climate with desert features. This means that an abundance of sunny days awaits you here throughout the year, along with very low rainfall levels. The city experiences noticeable temperature fluctuations between seasons, as well as between day and night readings, especially during the winter months.

In Marrakech, two main seasons are clearly defined: a very hot and arid summer and a mild winter, when light precipitation is also possible. Summer, particularly from June to September, is distinguished by high temperatures, which often rise above 30°C during the day (and can reach 36.5°C in July and August), and an almost complete absence of rain. Winters, from December to February, are significantly cooler, with average daytime temperatures around 19-21°C; however, nights can be quite cold, with temperatures dropping to 5-7°C. Spring and autumn are pleasant transitional periods with comfortable warm weather.

Precipitation in Marrakech is a rare and scarce phenomenon throughout the year. Even in the "wettest" months, such as March (with 2 mm of precipitation), the amount is minimal, and the number of rainy days is low. The summer months, especially July, are practically devoid of rain. Such weather makes Marrakech an ideal destination for sun lovers, but it is important to remember the intense heat during the summer peak and the need to bring warm clothes for cool winter evenings and morning hours.

The climate of Marrakech demonstrates significant temperature fluctuations throughout the year. The hottest months are undoubtedly July and August, when the average daily temperature steadily holds at marks of 28.1°C and 28.5°C respectively, and maximum values regularly rise to 36.5°C. During these summer peaks, the heat can be quite intense. Conversely, the coolest months are January, with an average temperature of about 12.0°C and night-time minimums dropping to 4.9°C, and December, where the average temperature is 13.2°C, and nights can also be quite fresh (around 6.3°C).

The summer period in Marrakech, covering the months from June to September, is characterized as very hot and dry. Daytime temperatures in June already reach 31.5°C, and in July and August, the peak heat occurs in the afternoon hours, when the thermometer can show 36.5°C. Nights bring some relief but remain warm: minimum temperatures in July and August are around 19.7°C - 20.5°C. The substantial difference between day and night temperatures, reaching 15-17°C, is a characteristic feature of the desert climate. Precipitation in the summer months practically does not occur, which intensifies the sensation of dry heat.

Winter in Marrakech, from December to February, offers much milder conditions, although with noticeable daily temperature variations. During the day, the air warms up to a comfortable 19-21°C (for example, in January the maximum temperature is about 19.0°C, in February – 21.3°C), making this time pleasant for walks and excursions. However, nights and early morning hours can be quite cool, with temperatures dropping to 4.9°C in January and 6.8°C in February. The difference between maximum and minimum temperatures in the winter months is also significant, often exceeding 10-14°C, so having warm clothing for the evening and night time will be very useful.

Precipitation in Marrakech is characterized by extreme scarcity throughout the year, however, a certain seasonality in its distribution can be distinguished. The city does not have a clearly defined rainy season in the usual sense, but there are periods with a slightly higher probability of precipitation compared to absolutely dry months.

The greatest amount of precipitation, although quite insignificant, falls in the period from late autumn to early spring. March stands out as the "wettest" month, receiving on average 2 mm of precipitation, which is distributed over approximately 9 days. February (1 mm, 5 rainy days) and April (1 mm, 7 rainy days) also demonstrate a small number of rainy days with minimal rainfall volume. It is important to understand that even during these periods, rains are usually very light and short-lived.

The summer months in Marrakech are distinguished by an almost complete absence of precipitation. The period from June to September can safely be called the dry season. The absolute minimum falls in July, when on average not a single millimeter of precipitation falls and not a single rainy day is registered. June, August, and September are also practically rainless, with zero precipitation and just a couple of days a month (0-2 days) when traces of moisture are theoretically possible, but not full-fledged rain.

Thus, the annual precipitation cycle in Marrakech represents a long dry and hot period in summer, replaced by a mild winter and spring, when the probability of insignificant and rare rains is slightly higher, but the total amount of moisture remains minimal. Travelers should expect predominantly sunny weather all year round, even if the trip falls on months with the highest number of formally "wet" days.

When planning a trip to Marrakech, it is important to assemble a wardrobe appropriate for its sunny and predominantly dry climate. For the summer months, especially from June to September, when the daytime temperature can rise above 35°C (for example, up to 36.5°C in July and August), focus mainly on light, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. Loose shirts, t-shirts, shorts, skirts, and light trousers will help you tolerate the heat more easily, as precipitation is practically absent at this time. Do not forget headwear for sun protection, sunglasses, and high SPF cream, as the sun here is very active. Comfortable walking shoes are a mandatory attribute, as you will be walking a lot through the streets of the Medina.

In winter (from December to February) and in the off-season (spring and autumn), the weather in Marrakech is more variable, with a noticeable difference between day and night temperatures. During the day it can be pleasantly warm (maximum temperatures around 19-23°C), but evenings and early mornings can be cool, with temperatures dropping to 5-10°C (for example, to 4.9°C in January). Therefore, the principle of layering in clothing will be your best friend. Take t-shirts, long-sleeved tops, a light sweater or fleece, as well as a jacket (for example, a mid-season jacket or windbreaker) with you. Although precipitation here is rare (no more than 1-2 mm per month, with the exception of March with 2 mm), and the number of "wet" days is small (from 0-2 in summer to 9 in March), a very light, compact rain jacket or a small umbrella may come in handy, especially if you are traveling in the period from January to April.
