Travelling through Ann Airport in Myanmar promises to be a colourful and memorable experience. To ensure your trip goes as smoothly and comfortably as possible, we have prepared a list of useful recommendations based on the specifics of local air travel.
Optimal Arrival Time. Although Ann Airport is not among the large international hubs, we strongly recommend arriving at the terminal no later than 2 hours before departure. In Myanmar, check-in and security processes may proceed at a more measured pace than you are used to, and paperwork sometimes requires more time. Arriving early will save you from unnecessary stress.
Check-in and Security. Keep your passport and printed ticket (or its electronic version) to hand. At small airports, checks can be thorough. Be prepared that you may be asked to switch on electronic devices (laptops, tablets) at the security checkpoint to confirm they are working. Treat requests from security staff with understanding and a smile — politeness opens all doors here.
Seat Selection on the Plane. Domestic flights are often operated by small turboprop aircraft. If there is an option to choose, be sure to book a window seat. Flights over Myanmar, and in particular over Rakhine State, reveal stunning views of green hills, winding rivers, and pagodas, which are best viewed from above.
Hand Luggage: Do's and Don'ts. Carry-on rules are standard for international aviation, but there are nuances that are monitored particularly strictly.
- Lithium batteries and power banks must be in hand luggage only. Checking them in with luggage is strictly prohibited.
- Liquids in containers larger than 100 ml should be placed in checked luggage.
- Sharp and cutting objects (even nail scissors) must be checked in.
For Transit Passengers. If Ann is an intermediate point on your route, allow enough time for the transfer — at least 3 hours. Flights in the region may be delayed due to weather conditions. Ensure your luggage is checked through to the final destination, otherwise, you will have to collect and re-check it, which will take additional time.
Customs and Special Control. Since the airport serves predominantly domestic flights, there is no classic customs control here. However, checks may be conducted for the export of items of cultural value. If you have bought souvenirs that look like antiques, keep receipts and certificates from the shop with you.
Tips for Saving Money. At small airports, the choice of cafes and shops may be limited, and prices inflated. To save money and time, take an empty water bottle with you (which can be filled after security if there are fountains, or use bottled water bought in advance in the town) and a light snack (nuts, biscuits, fruit).
What to Do in Case of Flight Delay. Delays are not uncommon during the rainy or foggy season. Ann Airport may not have high-speed Wi-Fi or many power outlets. We advise downloading films, books, or music to your phone or tablet in advance to pass the time while waiting. Have a fully charged power bank with you.
