Nijmegen Station (Station Nijmegen) is the main railway gateway to the oldest city in the Netherlands. The station serves as a key transport hub connecting the region with major centres such as Arnhem, Utrecht, and Venlo. Its modern infrastructure and convenient location make it a comfortable starting point for travels across the country.
It is important for passengers to know that access to the platforms is provided via an underground tunnel. Main trains depart from tracks 1, 3, and 4, while track 35 (a dead-end track) is often used for regional Arriva lines. The main entrance faces Stationsplein, where the bus station is located, ensuring an easy transfer to city transport.

Where to Eat
The station has an excellent selection of places for a quick bite. If time is short, visit AH to go or Kiosk for fresh sandwiches, fruits, and beverages. Those who prefer hot food will appreciate Smullers or the pasta at Julia's.
You can enjoy coffee at Starbucks, located right inside the building. The average cost for a light breakfast is around 5–8 Euros. If you have some spare time, full-service cafes and restaurants operate on the station square.
Station History
The history of railway connections in Nijmegen began in 1865 with the opening of the line to the German city of Cleves. Initially, the building was wooden, but it was later replaced by a monumental structure. Unfortunately, during the Second World War, especially during the bombing of 1944, the station was seriously damaged.
The current building was erected in 1954 according to the design of the famous architect Sybold van Ravesteyn. It is distinguished by a characteristic style combining elements of an Italian palazzo and functionalism. Today, it is an architectural monument that continues to be modernised for the needs of contemporary passengers.
Passenger Tips
We recommend arriving at the station 15–20 minutes before your train departs. Be sure to "check-in" with your OV-chipkaart or bank card at the turnstiles upon entry and "check-out" upon exit to avoid fines.
Watch the information screens closely: platforms may change, especially during peak hours. The station is safe, but do not leave your luggage unattended. If you face a night wait, please note that the station building closes for several hours at night after the departure of the last train.
