The majestic Eastern Gate (Oostpoort) is one of the most striking and recognizable monuments carefully preserved by the Netherlands. Located on the border of the old center in Scheveningen (Delft), this structure is the only surviving fragment of the ancient city wall to escape the large-scale 19th-century redevelopments.
Built around 1400, the gate is a fine example of Northern European Brick Gothic architecture. The ensemble consists of two tall towers connected by a powerful arch and a picturesque bridge over the canal. Thanks to its waterfront location, the monument is incredibly photogenic and looks like an illustration from an old fairy tale.

Today, the Eastern Gate is not just a historical site but a symbol of continuity. It is believed that this very view inspired the famous painter Johannes Vermeer. Currently, the building serves as an art gallery and residential space, remaining a must-visit point for any traveler wishing to experience the true spirit of a medieval city.
