In the heart of Nouméa lies the famous Place des Cocotiers—an iconic pedestrian square that has become a true symbol of the capital of New Caledonia. This green space, spanning about 4 hectares, serves as the main gathering spot, leisure area, and cultural hub for both residents and visitors.

The square is a long esplanade about 400 meters in length, gently sloping toward the sea. It is harmoniously divided into several functional zones, including Place Feillet with its classic bandstand and Place de la Paix, symbolizing the peaceful coexistence of cultures. In the center stands the elegant Celestial Fountain (Fontaine Céleste), considered the symbolic starting point for all the island's roads.
Surrounded by administrative buildings, boutiques, and cozy cafes, Place des Cocotiers is the perfect place to feel the rhythm of local life. Once a marshy area, it has been transformed into a well-maintained park with shady alleys, where coconut palms and flowering trees create a tropical oasis in the city center.
