Travelling through Harstad/Narvik Airport, Evenes (EVE) will be your first step towards discovering the amazing nature of Northern Norway. To ensure your trip to Harstad and its surroundings goes smoothly, make use of these useful tips.
Arrival time at the airport. For domestic flights, it is recommended to arrive 1.5–2 hours before departure. If you have an international flight (mostly seasonal), allow at least 2-3 hours. The airport is small, but it is better to have a time buffer, especially during peak tourist seasons.
Check-in and security control. The fastest way to check in for a flight is online check-in on your airline's website. This will allow you to proceed immediately to the bag drop counter or, if you are travelling light, head straight to the security screening area. Security control here is standard, but be prepared to remove liquids and electronics from your hand luggage in advance.
Choosing a seat on the plane. When flying to this region, it is strongly recommended to choose a window seat. The views of the fjords, mountains, and islands upon approach to the airport are simply mesmerising. For greater comfort and legroom, choose seats near the emergency exit or at the front of the cabin.
Hand luggage. Remember the standard rules: liquids in containers up to 100 ml must be packed in a single transparent bag. Sharp objects are prohibited. Be sure to check the weight and dimension limits for hand luggage with your airline, as Scandinavian carriers may have strict requirements.
For passengers with transfers. Although Evenes is mainly a destination airport, connecting flights are possible here. Clarify at check-in whether you will need to collect and re-check your luggage. Typically, when transferring from an international flight to a domestic one, this must be done after passing customs.
Customs control. Norway is part of the Schengen Area but not the EU Customs Union. This means that customs rules apply when entering from most countries (including EU countries). If you have nothing to declare, proceed through the "Green Channel". If you have goods exceeding duty-free limits (for example, restricted goods or tobacco), you must pass through the "Red Channel".
How to save time and money. Book your transfer or car rental in advance — this will be cheaper than sorting it out on arrival. Food and drink prices in Norway are high, so bring light snacks and an empty water bottle, which can be filled with drinking water for free in the terminal.
In case of flight delay. Check your flight status online. In the event of a delay, contact your airline representative. Depending on the length of the wait and the reason for the delay, you may be provided with food vouchers. The airport has free Wi-Fi and several cafes where you can wait for your departure in comfort.
