It is a key transport hub linking the land of a thousand lakes with Warsaw, Gdańsk, and other major cities in Poland. The station represents an important logistical point, combining railway and bus services into a single complex.

It is important for passengers to know that the station has several platforms, accessed via an underground passage. Please pay close attention to the electronic display boards: the numbering of tracks (tor) and platforms (peron) can be confusing for first-time visitors. The main entrance is located on Constitution of 3 May Square (Plac Konstytucji 3 Maja), where a major city transport interchange is also found.

Dining Options

If you feel hungry before your journey, there are several options at Olsztyn Główny and nearby.

For a quick snack, small kiosks operate inside the building and in the underground passages, where you can purchase fresh pastries, sandwiches, and takeaway coffee. The average cost here is minimal.

If you require a more substantial meal, a McDonald’s restaurant is located right on the station square and remains open until late. There are also grocery stores nearby (such as Biedronka), where it is convenient to buy water and snacks for the road at standard city prices.

Station History

The history of the railway hub in Olsztyn dates back to the 19th century. The first train arrived here in 1872, when the city, then known as Allenstein, became an important part of the East Prussian railway network.

Over the course of its existence, the station has been rebuilt multiple times. The modernist building, erected in the 1970s, was a landmark of the district for a long time but became outdated. In recent years, a large-scale reconstruction project has been underway to create a modern integrated transport centre, uniting the railway and bus stations under one roof.

Passenger Tips

To ensure a stress-free journey, we recommend arriving at the station 20–30 minutes before departure. This time will be needed to navigate the passageways and find your way.

Tickets and boarding: Tickets can be purchased online, at the ticket counter, or via a machine. If you board without a ticket, seek out the conductor in the first carriage immediately (except for EIP category trains, where a ticket is mandatory prior to boarding).

Safety: Please keep an eye on your luggage in the waiting hall. The station is guarded at night, but it is advisable to stay in well-lit areas. If you have a long layover at night, please check the opening hours of the waiting room, as it may close for technical breaks.
