About

If you're looking for an educational family vacation spot, this cozy corner of wildlife in Omsk should definitely be on your itinerary. In this part of Russia, this type of zoo is considered one of the most heartwarming. The exhibition is divided into themed zones: from the vibrant world of ornithology and an exotic terrarium to spacious enclosures for mammals. In total, about 58 bird species and over 30 mammal species are represented here, including rare inhabitants listed in the Red Data Book.

The main feature of the institution is its educational focus. Each animal here is not just an exhibit, but a participant in a large ecosystem, which information boards and experienced specialists explain in detail. This place is perfect for instilling a love for nature in children in an accessible and engaging way.

What to Do

At the Children's Zoo, visitors can expect more than just passive viewing; they get a true immersion into the world of fauna. The main highlight during the summer season (June to September) is the contact zone, where children and adults can pet and feed friendly residents under staff supervision.

Fans of the exotic should check out the aquarium and terrarium to see rare fish, amphibians, and reptiles. For those who want to learn more, interactive tours and themed festivals are held. Creative souls can join unique life-drawing masterclasses where the zoo’s fluffy and feathered residents serve as the main "models."

In addition to meeting animals, the territory features modern playgrounds and relaxation zones where you can take a breather in the shade of the trees. For the most curious, there are zoology and ecology clubs, making every visit not only pleasant but also beneficial for a child's development.

Getting There

The Children's Zoo is located at 109 Marshal Zhukov St, in the central part of the city. Thanks to this convenient location, getting there is easy by both private and public transport.

Visitors can take numerous buses and route taxis that go to the "Marshal Zhukov Street" stop. From the stop, it’s just a few minutes' walk to the zoo entrance. If you prefer comfort, a taxi ride from the central districts will take about 10–15 minutes.

For those traveling by car, parking spaces are provided near the territory. The high rating and popularity of this place among Omsk residents ensure that any passerby will be happy to point you toward "Yungorodok."

History & Facts

The history of this amazing place began in 1983 on the initiative of Alexander Petrovich Stankovsky. Initially, it was a small collection of decorative birds at the City Station of Young Naturalists, featuring budgerigars and Java sparrows. Over time, the project outgrew its club format, and in 1985, the zoo found its current home on Marshal Zhukov Street.

A significant milestone was 1994, when a special winter building was constructed to house heat-loving residents from southern regions. In subsequent years, the infrastructure actively expanded: an exhibition hall for aquarium fish and a terrarium opened, and since 2001, the Animal Rehabilitation Center has been operating to help wild animals in trouble.

Today, the Children's Zoo is not just an exhibition, but a serious educational base. More than 30 animal species, many of which are Red Data Book listed, successfully breed here. The staff, including doctors of science, continues the educational traditions established back in Soviet times, preserving an atmosphere of sincere love for nature.

Time Needed

To take your time viewing all five main exhibitions, meeting the residents of the aquarium and terrarium, and giving the children a chance to play on the grounds, we recommend planning a visit of 2 to 3 hours.

If you plan to attend interactive tours or participate in masterclasses, your stay may be longer. The summer period is particularly conducive to longer walks thanks to the open-air contact area, where interacting with animals brings a lot of joy to both children and adults.

Working Hours

The Children's Zoo is ready to welcome guests throughout the week, except for one day off. Please note that Monday is the day the zoo is closed to visitors.

From Tuesday to Sunday, the doors are open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. This is a convenient schedule that allows you to plan your visit either in the morning or before an evening stroll through the city. The open-air contact area operates during the same hours during the summer period.
