Platov Airport (ROV) serves as a modern and one of the newest aerial gateways to the south of Russia, named in honour of the famous Ataman of the Don Cossack Host, Matvey Platov. Built from scratch for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, it replaced the old airport of Rostov-on-Don and is the first major airport constructed in the country's modern history. The terminal's architecture is inspired by the landscapes of the Don region, resembling a bridge connecting the riverbanks. It is important to note that since 24 February 2022, the airport's operations for civilian flights have been temporarily suspended.

The terminal is equipped with nine telescopic jet bridges, and the runway is capable of accommodating most types of modern aircraft. Inside the building, all necessary infrastructure was available to passengers: from numerous cafes and shops, including Duty Free, to a multimedia exhibition dedicated to the history of the Don Cossacks.
