For the long and freezing winter, which lasts most of the year here, high-quality thermal underwear (preferably wool), warm fleece jackets, and windproof outerwear, such as a down jacket with a deep hood, are vital. Be sure to protect your extremities and face: bring mittens (they are warmer than gloves), a thick hat that covers your ears, and a high scarf or balaclava for protection against piercing winds.

Summer in this region is short and cool: even in July and August, the temperature rarely exceeds +12°C, so light clothing will hardly be useful to you. Even in the warmest season, it is worth keeping a windbreaker, a sweater, and a transitional season hat with you. Given the frequent, albeit light, precipitation, as well as the marshy tundra terrain, pay special attention to footwear. It should be waterproof, comfortable for walking, and have a thick non-slip sole — trekking boots are ideal.
