It is important for passengers to know that this is a terminus station. This significantly simplifies navigation: all platforms end in the main hall, so getting lost here is practically impossible. The exit to the city leads to Plaza de Sevilla. Turnstiles are installed for access to the platforms, so please keep your tickets handy.

How to Get There

Getting to the Cádiz Station is very easy thanks to its central location.

On foot: From the Cathedral and the historic district of El Pópulo, you can reach the station in just 10–15 minutes at a leisurely pace.

Public transport: City buses (lines 1, 5) stop near the station on Plaza de Sevilla, connecting the centre with the new part of the city and the beaches.

Taxi: An official taxi rank is located right at the terminal exit. A trip within the historic centre will take about 5–7 minutes.

Services and Amenities

Cádiz Station offers passengers a modern level of comfort and service. The terminal building houses:

  • Long-distance ticket counters and vending machines for commuter trains.
  • A waiting area with seating.
  • Restrooms, including cubicles for people with disabilities.
  • Car rental offices (located in the arrivals area or near the station).
  • Atendo service (assistance with boarding and disembarking for citizens with reduced mobility).

Please note: the station has Wi-Fi provided by the Adif network, but registration may be required to connect.

Where to Eat

Inside the terminal itself, the choice of establishments may be limited (usually a small café or vending machines with drinks and snacks). This is suitable for a quick bite before departure.

However, since the station is centrally located, there are many cafés and restaurants just a 2–5 minute walk away on Plaza de Sevilla and the surrounding streets. Here you can enjoy excellent coffee or try local tapas. The average bill for breakfast or a light lunch near the station will be around 10–15 Euros.

Station History

The history of rail transport in Cádiz began back in 1905, when a magnificent historic station building was constructed in the Neo-Mudéjar style. The old red brick building has been preserved and is an architectural monument, but it no longer accepts trains.

The modern Cádiz Station is the result of a major reconstruction in the early 2000s. The railway tracks were moved underground to eliminate the barrier between city districts, and a new functional terminal was built for passengers. This allowed the station to be integrated into the urban environment and high-speed trains to be launched.

Passenger Tips

Arrival: If you are travelling on a high-speed train (Alvia) to Madrid, please arrive at least 20 minutes before departure. Mandatory luggage screening via scanner is conducted before accessing the platform.

Tickets: For commuter trains (Cercanías), be sure to keep your ticket until the end of the journey — you will need it to pass through the turnstile at the exit.

Safety: The station is calm and safe, but as in any tourist destination, please keep an eye on your personal belongings in the waiting hall.
