Segovia-Guiomar Railway Station (Estación de Segovia-Guiomar) is a modern transport gateway to one of the most picturesque historical cities in Spain. The station serves high-speed trains (AVE and Avant) connecting the region with Madrid and the north of the country, making it a key hub for tourists and residents alike. The station building, designed in a contemporary style, is located separately from the urban area, amidst the fields of Castile.

The complex's infrastructure is simple and easy to navigate, even for first-time visitors. It is important for passengers to know that the station is located approximately 6 kilometres from the historical centre and the famous aqueduct. Inside the terminal, there is clear signage: arrival and departure areas are separated, and access to platforms is via security checkpoints, which is standard for Spanish high-speed lines.

How to Get There

Since Segovia-Guiomar station is located away from the city, walking to the centre is extremely difficult and unsafe (a distance of about 6 km along the highway). The most popular and budget-friendly method is the city bus (Line 11 or 12). Buses are usually synchronised with the arrival of AVE trains. The stop is located right outside the terminal exit, and the journey time to the aqueduct is 15–20 minutes.

For those who value speed and comfort, taxis are always available at the entrance. A trip to the centre will cost approximately 10–15 Euros and take about 10-15 minutes. If you are travelling by private car, follow the signs for the AVE station; a large car park is provided in front of the building.

Services and Amenities

The station offers a basic range of services necessary for a traveller. The main hall houses ticket counters and self-service machines where you can purchase or print tickets. For a comfortable wait, there is a spacious lounge with seating, as well as clean restrooms.

Free Wi-Fi is usually available on the station premises (Adif network, requiring registration). A significant feature is the full adaptation for passengers with reduced mobility: there are lifts, ramps, and dedicated washrooms. You can also find car rental desks at the station, which is convenient for exploring the region independently.

Dining Options

Inside the terminal, there is a cafeteria where you can order coffee, soft drinks, sandwiches (bocadillos), and pastries. This is an excellent option for a quick snack before boarding or immediately upon arrival. The average price here is reasonable, typical for station cafes.

It is important to note that the station stands in an isolated location, and there are no other restaurants or shops within walking distance. If you plan to have a substantial lunch or dinner, it is better to do so in the centre of Segovia before travelling to the station.

Station History

Segovia-Guiomar station was inaugurated in December 2007. This event was part of a large-scale project to launch the high-speed railway line Madrid — Valladolid, passing through the tunnels of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range.

The appearance of the station radically changed the transport accessibility of the city: travel time to Madrid was reduced to 30 minutes. The station received its romantic name in honour of Guiomar — the muse of the great poet Antonio Machado, whose life and work were closely linked to Segovia in the early 20th century.

Travel Tips

When planning your trip, please note that access to high-speed trains in Spain requires passing through a luggage security check (X-ray scanner). We recommend arriving at the station at least 15–20 minutes before the train's departure to pass through control calmly. Boarding usually closes 2 minutes before departure.

If you are travelling to the city by bus, prepare small cash to pay the driver, although many buses are already equipped with card terminals. For night trips, book a taxi in advance, as buses may run less frequently. Remember that the station building closes for the night after the arrival of the last train.
