History & Facts

The history of this site began in 1904, when the area, then known as the Lake Subdivision, was officially gifted to the city and opened as City Park. Later, in 1935, the park was expanded and renamed in honor of Benjamin Faurot—a prominent local entrepreneur and oil pioneer who, despite personal financial hardships later in life, laid the foundation for the region's prosperity.

In the first half of the 20th century, Faurot Park was home to an actual zoo. Local residents and tourists came here to see bears, deer, monkeys, and even alligators and coyotes. Although the zoo is no longer there today, this chapter of history has left warm memories for many generations of city residents.

The park carefully preserves elements of its architectural past. Here, you can see an elegant 1902 gazebo that still adorns the landscape, as well as a 1937 musical pavilion. These features highlight the park's status as an important cultural center of Lima, blending history with modern leisure.

Time Needed

Generally, 2 to 4 hours are sufficient for a basic introduction to Faurot Park. This is enough time to stroll along the main trails, enjoy the lake views, and perhaps have a small picnic in one of the shaded rest areas.

If you plan to fully engage in sports, go fishing, or attend one of the festive events like the summer concerts or the famous Star Spangled Spectacular, it's worth setting aside half a day or an entire evening. The park offers a relaxed pace of life, encouraging you to take your time and enjoy the moment.
