The history of this place began long before the first blues chords sounded here. The building housing the bar was constructed in 1906. Originally, it served as a warehouse for industrial wood drying, which was then transported along the Ohio River. In the early 1990s, entrepreneurs Fred Wooten and Michael Pollard decided to give the city an authentic space for rhythm and blues lovers. The official opening took place in October 1994. The venue was named after the legendary guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, serving as a tribute to his work and contribution to global music culture.

Despite a change of ownership in the late 90s, when management passed to Dennis Thompson, the club's concept remained unchanged. Over time, the repertoire expanded, adding rock, jazz, and funk to classic blues, which helped attract a younger audience. Meanwhile, the interior has been carefully preserved, including the famous hand-carved wooden bar counter.

Over decades of operation, the bar has become a true pillar of the Kentucky music scene. In 2007, it was voted the best blues bar by LEO readers, and in 2022, it received the prestigious Kentucky Pacesetter award for its consistent contribution to local culture and support of live arts.

From Tuesday to Thursday, the doors are open from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM. On Friday and Saturday, the bar opens slightly earlier—at 5:00 PM—and closes at 1:30 AM, giving guests more time for dancing and socializing.
