The restaurant's interior deserves special attention: floor-to-ceiling windows fill the space with light, while the design, created by husband-and-wife duo Ben and Kate Towill, transports visitors into an atmosphere of a relaxed journey. Here, woven light fixtures sit alongside apothecary jars behind the bar, and their own indoor courtyard delights the eye with an abundance of greenery and herbs that the chefs use right in the kitchen.

Basic Kitchen is not just an eatery, but a project with a soul and the philosophy "Cleaner Fuel, Longer Adventures." The restaurant is managed by an all-female team led by Executive Chef Air Casebier, which gives the place a special family-like coziness and an inspiring character valued by locals and tourists alike.

The menu changes with the seasons, so there's always something new to find: from juicy breakfast smoothies to exquisite crab toasts for dinner.

Beyond the food, the venue offers a chance to immerse yourself in an atmosphere of comfort and style. History & Facts

The story of Basic Kitchen began not in a kitchen, but during a massive cross-country cycling trip. The founders, husband and wife Ben and Kate Towill, rode 4,500 miles across the country—from Virginia to Oregon. It was during this long journey in 2014 that they conceived the concept for a restaurant focused on honest, healthy food and sustainability.

Before moving to the region, Ben worked as a chef at famous New York establishments like The Fat Radish, while Kate worked in film production design. Combining their talents, they found a historic building that had been waiting for its moment for two years. What was once a dark space with blue walls was transformed into a light-filled area with massive windows and a unique atmosphere.

The interior design was largely inspired by the couple's trip to Cuba in 2016. That's where the ideas for using woven lamps, textured walls, and an abundance of greenery came from. Basic Kitchen became the first cornerstone of their ambitious Basic Projects venture, which now brings together several popular establishments while staying true to the principles of simplicity and community benefit.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy the atmosphere and cuisine at Basic Kitchen, it's worth setting aside 1.5 to 2.5 hours. This is plenty of time for a leisurely lunch or dinner, as well as to take in the interior details and relax in the cozy indoor courtyard among the aromatic herbs.

If you plan to stop by for weekend brunch, it's better to allow about 3 hours. This is a popular time when the restaurant fills with a lively crowd, and the seasonal cocktails invite long conversation. In any case, it is highly recommended to book a table in advance so that waiting for a seat doesn't cut into your relaxation time.
