The history of this site began long before it took on its modern form. Previously, the project was known as the Children’s Museum of Siouxland. A massive $6.9 million transformation allowed for a complete reimagining of the space. The renowned firm Jack Rouse Associates (JRA) was responsible for the planning and design of the new exhibits, integrating the museum into the Pearl Street historical revitalization project. The new name — LaunchPAD — is symbolic: the acronym PAD stands for “play and discover.”

Former executive director Bob Fitch played a special role in the museum's philosophy, often quoting the famous sentiment: “Play is a child’s work.” Today, LaunchPAD continues to evolve thanks to donor support and the active involvement of residents, remaining a vital educational hub for the region.

To allow children to fully enjoy all the interactive zones without rushing from one exhibit to the next, it is recommended to set aside 2 to 3 hours for your visit. This time is usually sufficient for a thoughtful exploration of all floors and participation in creative activities.
