Moscow: 2 Days Without Moscow City and Red Square
Changing your surroundings is always a good idea, even if it's just a neighboring city. Let's say
you decided to pop over to Moscow for the weekend. You could plan any route you like, but why
bother when we've already done it for you? We've walked every meter ourselves and know what we're
talking about. Use our recommendation if you're too lazy to think about where and how to spend
your time in Moscow.
The route is full of walking tours, designed for good weather and comfortable shoes. You'll only
see popular attractions from afar – we won't waste time on tourist crowds. So, get in a good mood
and let's go!
Day One
Plan to be in Moscow from early morning to have more time for fun. First, go see
The Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Near it, you'll forget you're in Moscow – it's completely atypical architecture for the Russian
capital. Walked around, peeked inside, secretly took a photo for memory, let's move on.
Next stop is
the Planetarium. Those who have visited the St. Petersburg Planetarium will be enthusiastically open-mouthed at
the Moscow one. Before the show, take a tour of the interactive Lunarium museum, and admission to
the Urania Museum is free with the purchase of a ticket for any show.
Important: The Planetarium opens at 10 AM, but that doesn't mean it's empty then. There are many children, and entire classes come for shows. To sit in the middle, we recommend buying tickets in advance on the website. Otherwise, you'll only get seats on the edges, which aren't very comfortable for viewing. Your neck will hurt afterward.
After a snack, armed with a camera, head to Ozerkovskaya Embankment to the
Aquamarine Business Center. There are photoshoots almost every meter here, but
we're sure you'll find a spot for yourself. Besides the business center, there's not much else to
see in this area, so your next stop is Tsaritsyno. There will be enough walking
until the end of the day, and enough impressions until your next trip.
Day Two
The main thing here is not to sleep until noon, because a busy day lies ahead! If your soul craves
a quiet and pleasant walk, head to the MSU building (Universitet metro station),
there's also a Botanical Garden nearby – an excellent spot for a light snack under a tree.
Next, we recommend walking along the embankment to Gorky Park
via Vorobyovy Gory (Sparrow Hills). This is about 8 km, but don't let that number
scare you. In warm weather, Andreevskaya Embankment (which turns into Pushkinskaya Embankment) is
very cool. Ferries dock there, there are equipped recreation areas, and plenty of free space.
Within the park, there is the Museum of Modern Art “Garage”. Inside, there are interesting exhibitions with a single ticket and a wonderful
little bookstore! It's small, but the books cater to every taste.
The park is very crowded and beautiful. If you want to explore it from all sides, rent a bicycle
or scooter.
Next, walk through Muzeon towards the enormous monument to Peter I. And across Patriarchal Bridge,
you'll reach the next point —
the "Red October" art cluster, located in the building of a former confectionery factory. The place is very atmospheric,
somewhat reminiscent of the local Flacon and St. Petersburg's Etazhi. There are many shops,
graffiti, bars, and street food establishments; you can even play golf there!
And within arm's reach is the Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography. Sometimes there are interesting exhibitions there, so first check the schedule.
It's getting close to evening, so it's time to head to
Zaryadye Park. There, sitting on wooden benches, you can review everything you've
seen these days and relax before your journey home. And if there are many people, the sunset is
also clearly visible from the observation deck of Detsky Mir. The only downside: admission there
now costs 50 rubles, but you can play with Lego in the store itself. The choice is yours!
