About

Ryanair is Europe's largest Irish airline, setting new standards in the ultra-low-cost segment. Over its decades of operation, the company has evolved into a powerful aviation group offering passengers the most affordable fares through optimized operational processes. The main hub in this region is Cebu City, from which the carrier operates regular flights.

Ryanair is not part of global aviation alliances like Star Alliance or SkyTeam, preferring to develop its own unique business model. The fleet is primarily composed of modern narrow-body Boeing 737 family aircraft, including the 737-8-200 Gamechanger modification, which is known for high fuel efficiency and reliability.

A key feature of the carrier is the point-to-point concept, which involves direct flights between cities, often utilizing secondary airports to reduce port fees. This allows the airline to maintain record-low ticket prices, making air travel accessible to millions of people annually.

The advantages of flying with Ryanair include high punctuality, an extensive route network, and the flexibility to choose only the necessary services. The company constantly improves its mobile app and online booking system to ensure the trip planning process is as fast and transparent as possible for every traveler.

Baggage

Baggage rules at Ryanair are strictly regulated and depend on the chosen fare. The basic ticket price includes only a small personal item (a handbag or a small backpack) that must fit under the seat in front of you. Taking a standard carry-on suitcase into the cabin is only possible with the purchase of the Priority & 2 Cabin Bags service.

Checked baggage is not included in the minimum fares and must be paid for separately. Passengers can choose options weighing 10 kg or 20 kg. The maximum weight for a single piece of baggage is usually limited to 20–23 kg depending on the specific route and booking conditions. You can add baggage during the ticket purchase process or later through your personal account; however, this service will cost significantly more at the airport.

A fee is charged for every kilogram of excess weight. Ryanair also transports special baggage: sports equipment (skis, bicycles) and musical instruments. These items must be securely packed and paid for according to the current price list on the airline's website.

For safety reasons, it is prohibited to carry flammable substances, dangerous chemicals, and sharp objects in carry-on baggage. Before your trip, it is recommended to measure your bag dimensions in advance to avoid fines at the check-in counter, and to prefer soft bags that are easier to fit into the sizer.

Pet Rules

Cabin and Hold Transportation

Ryanair's pet policy is one of the strictest among European carriers. Unlike many traditional airlines, Ryanair does not transport pets (cats, dogs) either in the aircraft cabin or in the cargo hold on its scheduled flights.

Exceptions and Service Dogs

  • Only certified assistance dogs are allowed on certain routes.
  • Transportation of a service dog is free of charge but requires mandatory prior notification to the airline.
  • The animal must have a valid veterinary passport and all necessary certificates for entry into the destination country.

Required Documents and Requirements

For service dogs, documentary proof must be provided showing the animal was trained by an accredited organization. The owner must ensure the dog has a muzzle and leash, and that the dog behaves calmly during the flight. Some countries have specific quarantine rules (for example, flights to/from the UK or Morocco) that may restrict the transportation of even service animals.

We strongly recommend contacting Ryanair support well in advance of departure to clarify all formalities and receive confirmation for the transportation of an assistance animal.

Loyalty Program

MyRyanair Program

Ryanair does not have a classic loyalty program with mileage accrual typical of large network carriers. Instead, the company offers the MyRyanair account system, which significantly simplifies the booking process and provides access to exclusive offers.

Privileges and Features

  • Fast booking: Save passport details and card information for instant payment.
  • Special offers: Access to private ticket sales with prices starting from just a few dollars.
  • Trip management: A convenient interface for adding baggage, selecting seats, and checking in online.
  • Family bonus: Occasional discounts on children's tickets and extra services when participating in the Family Plus program.

How to Save and Redeem

Since there is no mileage accrual, the benefit for members lies in direct savings when purchasing tickets and service packages. Ryanair often runs "Buy One Get One Free" promotions or offers promo codes to its registered users via newsletter.

Joining MyRyanair is completely free on the official website or in the mobile app. It is the best way to stay informed about the most favorable fares without needing to participate in complex multi-level programs.

Services

Ryanair operates on an ultra-low-cost model, providing passengers with a single economy class of service. The cabin configuration in Boeing 737 aircraft is high-density, allowing for more people to be transported at minimum prices. The seat pitch is standard for low-cost carriers, but passengers can pay an extra fee for seats with extra legroom in the first row or near emergency exits.

Food and drinks are not included in the flight price. The Getaway Cafe service operates on board, offering a wide range of snacks, hot meals (sandwiches, lasagna), and various beverages for a separate fee. Entertainment systems and Wi-Fi are absent on most flights, so travelers are recommended to download content to their mobile devices in advance.

Special services are provided for families with children: the possibility to transport two pieces of baby equipment (strollers, car seats) free of charge. Passengers with disabilities can request airport assistance and boarding help. Ryanair also offers an unaccompanied minor service, but its terms and availability must be checked for the specific route during booking.

Destinations

Ryanair (2R) is constantly expanding its network, connecting key cities and popular tourist locations. The main connection point and hub in this region is Cebu City.

The route network includes flights to the capital — Manila, as well as to unique natural areas such as Busuanga and Del Carmen. The carrier focuses on providing direct flights, allowing passengers to save time and money when planning their travels.

Booking Tips

To buy Ryanair tickets at the lowest possible price, it is best to plan your trip 1.5–3 months before departure. The cheapest fares often fall on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Use the airline's mobile app, as exclusive discounts and promotions sometimes appear there that are unavailable in the web version.

A critically important point is online check-in. It opens 24 hours before the flight for basic fares. If you do not check in online and arrive at the airport counter, you will have to pay a significant fine (about $60). If you purchase a seat, check-in becomes available 60 days before departure.

Be extremely careful when entering data: correcting a name error can cost more than the ticket itself. As for seat selection, if comfort is important to you, it is better to pay extra for seats at the front of the cabin. It is also recommended to arrange travel insurance in advance, as basic low-cost fares are usually non-refundable.

History

The history of Ryanair began in 1984, when a small Irish company launched its first flight between Waterford and Gatwick on a 15-seat aircraft. In the early 90s, under the leadership of Michael O’Leary, the carrier radically changed its strategy, adopting the model of the American Southwest Airlines and becoming the first full-fledged low-cost carrier in Europe.

A key milestone was the decision to use secondary airports and standardize the fleet, focusing on Boeing 737 aircraft. This allowed the airline to rapidly expand its flight geography from Dublin and London across all of continental Europe. In 2013, Ryanair officially became the largest European carrier by the number of passengers carried.

Over years of development, the company has grown from a single route to a giant network spanning dozens of countries. In its modern history, Ryanair emphasizes environmental friendliness by purchasing new "Gamechanger" aircraft, which consume 16% less fuel and produce 40% less noise, confirming its status as an innovative leader in the aviation industry.
