T'way Air

About

T'way Air (IATA code: TW) is a dynamically growing South Korean low-cost carrier (LCC) that has quickly become a key player in the East Asian budget travel market. Based in the Republic of Korea, the airline focuses on providing affordable and safe travel, connecting major metropolitan areas and popular resort zones. The company explains its name through three "Ts": Together, Today, and Tomorrow, emphasizing its commitment to being by the passenger's side today and in the future.

The main hubs for T'way Air are the capital's airports in Seoul — Incheon and Gimpo. From here, the airline operates an extensive flight program covering both domestic Korean routes and international flights. Currently, the carrier is not a member of global aviation alliances such as Star Alliance or SkyTeam, preferring to develop as an independent low-cost brand with a focus on direct sales and cost optimization.

Among the key advantages of T'way Air, passengers highlight the modern fleet, consisting primarily of reliable Boeing 737 family aircraft, and a high level of service uncharacteristic of the budget segment. The airline regularly receives high marks for punctuality and the friendly approach of its staff, and its bright livery with red accents is easily recognizable at airports worldwide.

The company pays special attention to expanding its geography. In addition to traditional routes for Korean carriers to Japan and China, T'way Air is actively exploring destinations in Southeast Asia and even launching ambitious long-haul flights to Europe. This makes it a versatile choice for both short business trips and long vacations.

Baggage

Baggage rules at T'way Air directly depend on the selected fare (Smart, Event, or Multi) and the flight destination. As a standard for carry-on baggage, the airline allows one piece weighing up to 10 kg. The sum of the bag's dimensions must not exceed 115 cm (approximately 55×40×20 cm). Additionally, you can take a small personal item into the cabin, such as a handbag, laptop, or a bag with Duty-Free purchases, provided they fit under the seat in front of you.

Checked baggage allowances vary: on domestic flights within South Korea, 15 kg is usually included, while on international routes, the allowance can range from 15 to 23 kg depending on the zone. It is important to remember that on the cheapest "promo" fares, free baggage may be entirely excluded. In this case, a space in the luggage compartment must be paid for separately. It is recommended to book baggage in advance via the website or mobile app, as rates at the airport check-in counter are significantly higher.

For excess baggage, there is a fee schedule for every extra kilogram. If you plan to transport sports equipment (skis, surfboards, golf equipment) or musical instruments, you must notify the airline in advance. Special baggage must be carefully packed in protective cases; a fixed service fee is usually charged for its transportation over the weight limit.

For safety reasons, T'way Air strictly prohibits the transportation of high-power lithium batteries, flammable substances, and dangerous goods in checked baggage. Fragile items and valuables (money, jewelry, documents) should always be taken in your carry-on luggage. Before flying, be sure to check the current list of prohibited items on the official website, as requirements may change depending on the rules of a specific airport.

Pet Rules

Pet Transportation in the Cabin

T'way Air is considered a "pet-friendly" airline and allows the transportation of small dogs, cats, and birds (older than 8 weeks) directly in the aircraft cabin. The total weight of the animal together with the carrier must not exceed 9 kg. The container must be soft or hard, with a secure lock and ventilation, and its dimensions must not exceed 115 cm in the sum of three dimensions (maximum height for a hard carrier is up to 21 cm, for a soft carrier — up to 26 cm).

Transportation in the Baggage Compartment

  • On most of the airline's aircraft types, the transportation of animals in the baggage compartment is not provided.
  • If such a service is available on a specific flight, the weight of the animal with the crate can reach 32-45 kg (subject to clarification at the time of booking).
  • The container must comply with IATA standards, be durable, and allow the animal to stand and turn around.

Required Documents

  • An international veterinary passport with vaccination records.
  • A health certificate issued by a licensed clinic.
  • For international flights — microchipping and a rabies antibody titer certificate (requirements depend on the destination country).
  • A completed airline declaration form for animal transportation.

Cost and Booking

The pet transportation service is always paid and is not included in the free baggage allowance. Rates depend on the route: on domestic flights, it is a fixed amount (approx. $15–$23), while on international flights, fees are higher. The number of spaces for animals on each flight is strictly limited, so booking must be confirmed no later than 24-48 hours before departure via the call center.

Restrictions and Safety

  • The transportation of brachycephalic breeds (pugs, bulldogs, Persian cats) is prohibited due to the risk of breathing problems during the flight.
  • The airline may refuse transportation in extreme temperatures (severe heat or cold at the departure/arrival airport).
  • Pregnant females and sick animals are not allowed to fly.

To clarify detailed requirements and the possibility of bringing a pet on a specific flight, be sure to contact T'way Air customer support before purchasing a ticket.

Loyalty Program

T'way Air Loyalty Program

Unlike major network carriers, T'way Air does not use a classic mileage accumulation system with elite tiers (Silver, Gold, Platinum). Instead, the airline offers a simpler and more flexible reward system focused on instant benefits and discounts for registered users.

Main Privileges and Bonuses

  • Discount Coupons: Registered club members receive welcome coupons upon registration and special promo codes for their birthday.
  • Special Offers: Access to private "members-only" ticket sales held regularly on the official website.
  • T'way Pay: Using their proprietary payment system allows for faster booking and additional bonuses when paying.
  • Events and Promotions: Periodically, the airline launches temporary programs for accumulating points or stamps for flights, which can be exchanged for additional services (seat selection or extra baggage).

How to Earn and Spend

Since there are no classic miles, loyalty is incentivized through the Stamp system on certain routes or participation in partner promotions. Accumulated points or coupons can be used to partially pay for a fare or to order additional onboard services. Information about current activities is always displayed in the user's personal account on the twayair.com website.

Alliance Participation

T'way Air is not a member of global alliances, so accumulating points for flights on other airlines (or vice versa) is not possible. The entire focus of the program is centered on the carrier's internal services and direct offers.

How to Join the Program

  • Registration is completely free and available on the official website or in the mobile app.
  • When registering, you must provide a current email and contact details.
  • A simplified registration form on the global version of the website is provided for foreign citizens.

We recommend subscribing to the newsletter after registration to be the first to know about new fare plans and promotional offers.

Services

T'way Air offers a standard set of services for the LCC segment, divided into basic service and additional options. The main class of service on board is Economy. Boeing 737 aircraft cabins have a typical configuration with a seat pitch of about 29–30 inches. For those who prefer more personal space, Premium Seats (in the first row and at emergency exits) with increased legroom are available and can be booked for an additional fee.

Meals on T'way Air flights are usually not included in the ticket price. Passengers are offered the t'shop menu, where they can purchase snacks, hot and cold drinks, as well as souvenir products directly during the flight. On international flights, a Pre-order Meal service is available — pre-ordering hot dishes (Korean classics, Western cuisine, children's menu), which must be placed no later than 48 hours before departure on the airline's website.

An in-flight entertainment system is absent on most short-haul routes, so passengers are recommended to download content to their devices in advance. Wi-Fi on board is not widely provided, but the company is actively working on introducing modern technologies on new aircraft. For the comfort of travelers, special services are provided: accompaniment for unaccompanied minors, assistance for passengers with reduced mobility, and the option to order a bassinet for infants on certain types of flights. The full range of additional services, including specific seat selection and insurance purchase, is available in the booking management section on the official website.

Destinations

T'way Air connects the Republic of Korea with key cities in Asia and the world, offering an extensive route network from its main hub in Seoul. The flight geography covers the most popular tourist and business destinations, providing passengers with convenient connections and affordable prices.

The carrier's list of regular destinations includes major metropolises such as Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok, and Singapore. Additionally, T'way Air is actively developing flights to Hong Kong, the Vietnamese city of Da Nang, and the resort of Jeju. Recently, important European points — Rome and Frankfurt — have appeared in the schedule, opening up new opportunities for budget travel between continents.

Booking Tips

To find the best fares on T'way Air flights, it is recommended to book tickets as early as possible — ideally 2-3 months before departure. The lowest prices are usually available on the airline's official website during Mega Early Bird sales. Note that the cheapest tickets (Event fare) are often non-refundable and do not include free baggage, so always check the fare conditions before paying.

Online registration (Web Check-in) opens 24 hours before departure. For domestic flights within Korea, it closes 35 minutes before, and for international flights — 1 hour before departure. We recommend checking in online to select the best seats and save time at the airport. The boarding pass can be saved on your smartphone, allowing passengers without baggage to proceed directly to the security zone (on certain routes).

Seat selection at T'way Air is a paid service if you want to take a seat with extra legroom. If this is not important to you, the system will assign a seat automatically for free during check-in. The airline's mobile app is a useful tool not only for buying tickets but also for tracking flight status in real-time. Additionally, exclusive promo codes sometimes appear in the app that are not available on the desktop version of the site.

History

The history of T'way Air in its modern form began in 2010 in Seoul. The airline was created based on the assets of the first Korean low-cost carrier, Hansung Airlines, and underwent a complete brand reboot. From its founding, the management focused on an efficient budget carrier model targeting a young and active audience, offering the market quality service at competitive prices.

The first years of operation were focused on strengthening positions within the country. A landmark event was the launch of flights between the capital and Jeju island, which is one of the busiest air routes in the world. Success in the domestic market allowed the company to quickly move to international expansion, starting flights to nearby countries — Japan, China, and Taiwan.

During the 2010s, T'way Air demonstrated impressive growth in fleet and passenger traffic. The core of the fleet consisted of the time-tested Boeing 737-800 aircraft. By the middle of the decade, the airline had firmly established itself among the leaders of the South Korean LCC segment, opening bases not only in the capital but also in major regional centers such as Busan and Daegu.

The modern stage of T'way Air's development is characterized by entry into the long-haul market. The introduction of wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft into the fleet allowed the company to launch flights to Sydney and European capitals. Today, the airline continues its technological modernization by implementing digital services and following sustainable development principles, while maintaining its philosophy of making travel accessible to everyone.
