Thanks to extensive land-filling efforts supported by local tractor companies, the ground was raised and "reclaimed" from the elements, turning a wasteland into a well-maintained recreation zone.

Notably, the project was funded through charity: members of the Kiwanis Club held annual apple sales campaigns, and much of the work was performed by volunteers. In 1963, the park was officially turned over to the city. Later, local media dubbed it a "city treasure," highlighting the remarkable landscape transformation.

The park also became the birthplace of the national Little League baseball movement in the city—it was here that the first specialized fields for young athletes were built. The project was finally completed by 1969, serving as a generous gift to the residents for the Kiwanis Club's 50th anniversary.
