It is important for passengers to know that the station has two main exits to the station squares: the East and the West. Navigating inside the building is quite simple thanks to duplicate signage in English. Platforms are located on the lower level, while waiting halls are on the upper level. The huge waiting hall is equipped with plenty of seating, as well as special VIP lounges for business class passengers. If you have time, you can go out to the station square, where the choice of restaurants in the neighbouring shopping centres is even greater.
The history of Harbin West Railway Station is inextricably linked with the development of high-speed travel in China. It was officially opened in December 2012, simultaneously with the launch of the world's first high-speed railway line laid in a zone of extremely low temperatures — the Harbin–Dalian line.
The construction of this giant transport hub became an important milestone for the city, shifting the transport vector and relieving the old central station. The building project took into account the climatic features of the region: reinforced thermal insulation and heating systems allow for a comfortable temperature inside even in 30-degree frosts. Today, the station is a symbol of the modernisation of the transport system of Heilongjiang Province.
When planning a trip through Harbin West, be sure to allow time for security checks. It is recommended to arrive at the station at least 1.5 hours before departure, especially on public holidays. Please note that boarding the train stops 5 minutes before departure.
