About

Imagine a unique nature reserve where desert landscapes meet the vibrant colors of the Red Sea. Coral Beach is one of the most picturesque spots offered by Taba and its surroundings in Egypt. This beach is part of a protected national park, home to the northernmost coral reef in the world, stretching nearly a kilometer and a half along the shore.

This place is famous for its incredible "coral gardens," which begin literally a couple of meters from the water's edge. Beneath the mirror-like surface of the sea lies an entire universe: it is home to about 400 species of fish and over 150 varieties of coral. The crystal-clear water and high salinity of the gulf create ideal conditions for observing marine life, even for beginners.

The beach infrastructure is designed for comfortable eco-tourism. There is an entrance fee, which guarantees cleanliness and order. Visitors have access to convenient pontoons for entering the water, free lounge chairs, and high-quality equipment rentals. Coral Beach is not just a place for swimming, but a true open-air museum of living nature that receives high ratings from travelers worldwide every year.

What to Do

The main draw of this place is, without a doubt, snorkeling. Even if you've never tried snorkeling before, you'll quickly get the hang of it here: the coral reefs are so close that the magical underwater world reveals itself from the very first seconds of immersion. We recommend using the special pontoon bridges to safely bypass the shallows and reach the outer reef wall, where the most vibrant life is concentrated.

For those who want to learn more about the sea, the beach has a dedicated room with educational videos about the region's flora and fauna. After an active swim, you can relax in a comfortable lounge chair under a canopy, enjoying the silence and the sea breeze. If you're traveling with children, they will love watching the fish in the safe "paddling pool"—a shallow area with a sandy bottom.

Don't forget to bring special rubber water shoes to protect your feet. Ropes are stretched along the piers, which are convenient to hold onto while resting in the water, but be careful not to touch the corals themselves—this helps preserve the reserve and protects you from accidental stings. You can swim here all year round, as the water temperature rarely drops below a comfortable 20°C.

Getting There

Getting to this scenic spot is easy. Coral Beach is located south of the central part of the region, almost on the way to the border. If you are heading from the city center, a taxi ride will take no more than 10–15 minutes. For those who prefer public transport, buses (routes #15 and #16) run regularly; you'll need to get off at the "Coral Beach" stop.

Travelers staying in hotels on the southern part of the coast can reach the reserve on foot or rent a bicycle. For those with their own or rented cars, there is convenient parking nearby. The beach is located just a few dozen meters from the main highway, making it almost impossible to miss the entrance to the national park.

History & Facts

This natural corner is part of the Coral Reef Nature Reserve. Its main feature is its status as the northernmost coral reef on our planet. The unique geographical location, where the hot desert meets the sea, promotes intense water evaporation. This increases the salinity of the gulf, creating an ideal environment for coral colonies to thrive.

The reef formed over many centuries, gradually turning into dense "underwater forests." Today, it stretches along the coast for 1,200 meters. Scientists and environmentalists pay great attention to preserving this fragile ecosystem, which is home to more than 150 species of coral and hundreds of varieties of marine life.

Historically, this site developed as an organized national park. To allow tourists to admire the underwater world without damaging the corals, special pontoons and railings were installed. This approach allows the pristine beauty of nature to be preserved while opening it up to thousands of sea explorers every year.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy the beauty of the reserve and relax, we recommend setting aside 3 to 5 hours for your visit. This is enough time for several snorkeling sessions, relaxing in a lounge chair, and exploring the information displays in the park's "classroom."

It's best to come here in the morning hours. At this time, the sea is usually at its calmest, the water is crystal clear, and marine life is most active. Additionally, a morning visit will allow you to snag the best spots in the shade of the canopies before the main flow of tourists arrives at the beach.

Working Hours

The reserve welcomes guests daily. Usually, the park gates open at 8:00 AM and close at sunset (around 6:00 PM–8:00 PM depending on the time of year). Since the site has national park status, operating hours may change on holidays or due to weather conditions.

For the most up-to-date information on opening times and entrance fees, we recommend checking the official website of the national parks authority or asking your hotel receptionist for details before your trip.
