  • Luggage lockers of various sizes.

Where to Eat

It is difficult to stay hungry at the station. Directly in the station building or in the passageway, chain bakeries (such as Kamps or Ditsch) usually operate, where you can buy fresh pastries, sandwiches, and takeaway coffee. The average cost for a snack is around 5–8 Euros.

If you have 30–40 minutes to spare, we advise going into the city: a few minutes' walk away is the Rathaus-Galerie shopping centre with a large food court offering Asian, Italian, and German cuisine, as well as fast food. This is an excellent option for a full lunch.

Station History

The history of Leverkusen Mitte station is relatively young compared to many historic stations in Germany. It was opened in 1979 as part of the reorganisation of railway services and the creation of the city train (S-Bahn) network in the Rhine-Ruhr region. The goal of construction was to ensure direct access to the new centre of Wiesdorf and the Bayer plants.

The station replaced the old Leverkusen-Wiesdorf station, which could no longer cope with the passenger flow and did not meet new urban planning goals. Since then, the station has been modernised several times, including for the implementation of the RRX (Rhein-Ruhr-Express) concept aimed at speeding up regional connections.

Tips for Passengers

When planning a trip through Leverkusen Mitte, consider several important points:

  • Match Days: Since the BayArena stadium is within walking distance, the station can be overcrowded with fans on match days. Plan your time with a buffer.
  • Tickets: Purchase tickets in advance via the DB Navigator app or at machines (red ones for long-distance and regional, green/grey for local VRS transport) to avoid queues. Do not forget to validate (stamp) a paper ticket before going onto the platform if it does not have a date and time.
  • Safety: In the evening and at night, the station is quite calm, but it is recommended to wait for the train in well-lit areas of the platform or near the entrance.
  • Transfers: A transfer between trains (cross-platform) usually takes 5–7 minutes, but allow at least 10 minutes for transferring to a bus.
