The climate in Accra can be described as tropical, hot, and humid. Thanks to its proximity to the equator, virtually eternal summer reigns here: the air temperature remains surprisingly stable throughout the year. Average thermometer readings rarely drop below +25°C even in the "coolest" months, making the capital of Ghana an excellent place for those seeking warmth.

Instead of the usual four seasons, the weather here is divided into dry and wet periods. The beginning of the year (January and February), as well as December, is typically the driest time with minimal precipitation and high temperatures. From May to October, there is a distinct rainy season when the number of cloudy and rainy days increases significantly, although the air remains warm and comfortable for walking.

Accra welcomes travellers with a hot tropical climate, where the concept of "cold" is practically non-existent, and the sun is active year-round. The hottest period falls at the beginning of the year: February and March are characterized by the highest readings, when the average temperature holds around 29°C, and daily highs regularly reach 33°C. At this time, corresponding to the calendar winter of the Northern Hemisphere, real heat reigns in the capital of Ghana, which can feel quite intense.

Curiously, the "coolest" season falls during the summer months we are accustomed to. In July and August, the temperature drops noticeably, making the weather milder and more comfortable for long walks. Average readings during this period are about 25.5°C, and the daytime heat rarely exceeds the 28°C mark. This time can be called "African winter," although in terms of sensation, it resembles a pleasant, non-scorching summer.

Daily temperature fluctuations in Accra exist, but they are quite smooth. The most noticeable difference between day and night is observed in the hot season (January-February), when after the midday heat, the air cools down by 7–8 degrees, bringing evening freshness. However, even on the coolest nights of August, the thermometer does not drop below 23°C, so you are unlikely to need warm clothes on your trip.

Precipitation in Accra falls exclusively as rain, due to Ghana's hot tropical climate. Throughout the year, you can observe a noticeable change of seasons, where periods of relative drought alternate with months of high humidity. The driest time of the year is the beginning of winter: in January, rainfall levels tend toward zero, and the number of days when a light rain might fall is minimal — only about 6 per month.

The rainy season gathers strength by the end of spring. Already in May, the number of rainy days rises sharply to 20, and the peak in terms of moisture volume falls in June. In this month, it rains very often — statistics show up to 24 rainy days, so travellers should be prepared for regular precipitation. In summer, the rains bring pleasant freshness, slightly reducing the high air temperature.

Interestingly, after a slight dip in August, a second wave of frequent precipitation is observed in autumn. October is the record holder for the frequency of wet weather: on average, up to 25 days with precipitation are recorded, although their intensity may be lower than in June. By November, the rains begin to gradually retreat, preparing the city for the return of the dry season.

Accra welcomes travellers with a warm tropical climate year-round, so light and breathable items should be the foundation of your wardrobe. Give preference to clothes made from natural fabrics, such as cotton or linen, which will help you tolerate the heat and high humidity more easily. T-shirts, shorts, light dresses, and loose-fitting trousers will be the ideal choice for daily walks. Don't forget comfortable shoes: sandals are suitable for relaxed recreation, while reliable sneakers will be useful for long excursions around the city.

The weather in Ghana has its seasonal peculiarities, especially from May to October, when the number of rainy days increases significantly. During this period, it is highly recommended to take a compact umbrella or a light raincoat that won't take up much space in your luggage. Regardless of the season, the sun here is very active, so sunscreen with a high protection factor, a wide-brimmed hat or cap, and quality sunglasses are mandatory accessories for every tourist.

Although the temperature stays high during the day, a refreshing breeze may blow from the ocean in the evenings. Additionally, powerful air conditioners often operate in shopping centres and hotels. Therefore, it is worth using the layering principle: put a light sweater, windbreaker, or cardigan in your suitcase to throw over your shoulders if necessary. Also, a useful addition to your packing list will be insect repellent for comfortable evening walks.
