It is important for passengers to know that the station is connected via an underground passage to the Piramide Metro station (Line B) and the Porta San Paolo commuter train station (Rome-Lido line). The main entrance is located on the Piazzale dei Partigiani side. Navigation inside is quite straightforward: platforms are connected by underground subways equipped with elevators and escalators.
Reaching Ostiense station is possible via various means, as it is excellently integrated into Rome's transport network.
By Metro: The most convenient way is to take the metro to Piramide station (Line B). From there, you can reach the station building directly via the underground passage by following the signs (transfer time is about 5–7 minutes).
By Bus and Tram: Numerous bus routes (e.g., 30, 83, 280, 719) and Tram No. 3 stop near the station. The stop is located at Piazzale dei Partigiani.
From Fiumicino Airport: Regional trains on the FL1 line run every 15–30 minutes, connecting the airport to Ostiense station. The journey takes about 30 minutes, which is often faster and more economical than a taxi.
On Foot: From the Testaccio district, you can walk there in 10–15 minutes. From the Colosseum, the walk takes approximately 25–30 minutes.

The main hall houses ticket counters (open during the day) and 24-hour ticket machines (Self Service) that accept cards and cash. Seating is available in the main hall and on the platforms.

The main gastronomic attraction of the station is the massive Eataly complex, located at the rear of the station (exit towards platform 15). Here you can find everything from quick bites (panini, pizza al taglio) to full-service restaurants serving pasta and other dishes. It is an excellent place to pass the time in comfort.
If time is short, inside the station itself there are several classic Italian coffee bars where you can have an espresso at the counter and enjoy a fresh croissant. The average cost for coffee and a pastry is 3–5 Euros.
In the immediate vicinity, in the Testaccio district, there are many authentic trattorias serving traditional Roman dishes, such as pasta carbonara or cacio e pepe.
The history of Ostiense station is inextricably linked to the architectural ambitions of Italy in the late 1930s. The current monumental building was designed by architect Roberto Narducci and opened in 1940.
The station was built to replace a modest station that existed here previously and was intended to serve as a grand gateway for welcoming high-profile guests, including the state visit of Adolf Hitler in 1938 (a temporary but luxurious structure was built for this purpose, which became the prototype for the current one). The building's architecture is executed in the style of Rationalism, featuring white marble and strict lines, which was characteristic of that era.
Today, the station plays a key role in relieving the central Termini station and ensuring connections between Rome, its suburbs, and Fiumicino Airport.
Ticket Validation: Before boarding a regional train, be sure to validate your paper ticket in the green and grey machines on the platform or in the hall. Fines for unvalidated tickets are high.
Safety: As with any major station, keep an eye on your belongings. The area around the station is safe during the day, but late at night, it is better to stick to well-lit streets and the main entrance.
Transfers: If you are transferring to the metro, note that the walk to Piramide station is quite long (about 300-400 metres), although it is equipped with travelators. Allow at least 15 minutes for the transfer.
Italo Trains: Some high-speed trains from the private company Italo depart from Ostiense station. Check the platform number on the electronic board in advance, as they may arrive at the further tracks.
