What to Do

There is something for everyone at Zhambyl Park. Those who enjoy quiet relaxation can stroll through birch groves and rowan alleys, which are particularly beautiful in autumn. The central area with its rock gardens and fountains is an ideal spot for reading a book or contemplative rest on a bench to the sound of water.

For families with children, the park offers modern playgrounds with swings, slides, and fairytale-style houses. One of the favorite activities for young visitors is a ride on the tourist train that leisurely cruises along the park paths. Thanks to the lack of noise and the smoking ban, the air here always remains fresh and clean.

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the numerous sculptures and well-kept flower beds that serve as excellent backdrops for photos. If you have time, be sure to walk along the "Arbat" pedestrian street to the neighboring Zhastar Park to see the singing fountain or visit the ethno-village, turning your park visit into a complete urban adventure.

Getting There

Located in the very heart of the city at 63/1 Kazakhstan St, the park is an easily accessible destination for any tourist. You can get here by public transport: trams, buses, and fixed-route taxis regularly pass through the nearest stops. The city transport fare is approximately 75 tenge, making the trip very budget-friendly.

If you prefer comfort, a taxi ride from the central districts will take no more than 10–15 minutes. For those arriving from the airport or railway station, the journey by car will take about 20 minutes, depending on traffic. Convenient parking zones for private vehicles are provided near the park.

History & Facts

The history of this green corner began at the very end of the 19th century. Zhambyl Park was established between 1889 and 1899 on the initiative of a group of political exiles, including Yevgeny Michaelis and Orest Kostyurin. At that time, it was called the "City Garden" and was located on the very outskirts, adjacent to Sennaya (Haymarket) Square.

For a long time, the garden was a center of cultural attraction, featuring a summer theater where touring companies from Moscow, Leningrad, and Poltava performed. This place remembers the voices of outstanding artists and the atmosphere of an old provincial town gradually transforming into a major industrial center.

The park received its current name on July 30, 1946, when it was officially named after the great Kazakh poet-akyn Zhambyl Zhabayev. This event solidified the park's status as an important ideological and cultural site. In 2006, the territory underwent a large-scale renovation—that was when the modern landscape zone with alpine gardens, so popular with today's visitors, was created.

Time Needed

For a leisurely exploration of the main area of Zhambyl Park, 1–2 hours is usually sufficient. This is enough time to stroll through all the alleys, see the sculptural compositions, and relax by the fountain in the central part.

If you are traveling with children, your stay may be longer, as playgrounds and attractions traditionally keep young visitors entertained for quite some time. If you plan to combine your park visit with a walk along the "Arbat" and a visit to the ethno-village in Zhastar Park, you should budget at least 3 hours for the entire recreational complex.

Zhambyl Park is open to visitors daily, allowing guests of the city to plan their leisure time for any convenient day of the week. Early opening hours suit morning joggers, while the evening is perfect for romantic walks under artificial lighting.
