It is important for passengers to know that the station is a large-scale complex. The main ticket counters and waiting halls are located on the 3rd floor. The building is connected via a walkway to the Dongdaegu Station subway stop (Line 1) and the Dongdaegu Station Transfer Center. For quick navigation, follow the colored lines on the floor: they will guide you to the KTX platforms or the exit towards the buses.
Getting to Dongdaegu Station is very simple, as it is the city's main transport hub.
Metro: The most reliable method is to use Line 1 (the red line) of the Daegu Metro. Alight at Dongdaegu Station. The travel time from the central Banwoldang station is approximately 10–12 minutes.
Buses: Next to the station is the "Dongdaegu Station Transfer Center," where both city and intercity express buses arrive. Follow the "Bus Terminal" signs inside the building.
Taxi: Taxi stands are located at Exits 3 and 4. A trip from the city center will take 15–20 minutes depending on traffic and will cost approximately 7,000 – 10,000 KRW.
Dongdaegu Station offers a wide range of services for a comfortable wait.
Tickets and Waiting: Ticket counters and machines (with English language support) are located on the 3rd floor. For passengers, there are spacious general waiting areas with seating and televisions, as well as a paid Korail Membership Lounge for a more quiet rest.
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi (network name: Public WiFi Free) is available throughout the premises. Look for special stands or outlets in cafes to charge your gadgets. Clean restrooms, mother and child care rooms, and a pharmacy are available.
Luggage: In addition to automated lockers, the T-Luggage service operates here, where you can leave oversized luggage or arrange for its delivery to your hotel.
It is impossible to stay hungry at Dongdaegu Station.
Quick Snacks: Inside the station (on the 3rd floor and in the waiting area), you will find numerous bakeries (such as the famous Samsong Bbangjib with their corn bread), coffee shops, and Storyway convenience stores. For fast food lovers, there is Lotteria and other chain establishments. The average cost for coffee and a pastry is about 5,000 – 8,000 KRW.
Full Meal: If you have time, head over to the adjacent Shinsegae Department Store. On the 8th and 9th floors, as well as the basement level, there is a huge food court and a "Gourmet Alley" featuring dozens of restaurants serving Korean, Japanese, and European cuisine.
The history of Dongdaegu Station (which translates as "East Daegu") began in 1969, when it opened as a standard railway station to relieve the old Daegu Station. Its role changed dramatically in 2004 with the launch of the high-speed KTX trains, transforming the station into a key node in the national network.
A massive reconstruction, completed in 2016, integrated the station with the new Complex Transfer Center and the Shinsegae Department Store, creating one of the largest transport and retail hubs in Korea. Today, it is the second busiest station in the country after Seoul Station, symbolizing the dynamic development of the region.
Arrival: It is recommended to arrive at the station at least 20–30 minutes before your train departs. The station is very large, and the walk from the metro to the platform may take some time.
Boarding: In Korea, there are no turnstiles at the entrance to KTX/SRT platforms. You proceed freely to the train, but conductors may check your ticket once inside the carriage. Watch the information boards closely: trains depart strictly according to schedule.
Safety and Rules: Do not leave luggage unattended. Smoking is permitted only in specially designated outdoor booths (smoking booths); smoking inside the station is strictly prohibited.
Etiquette: It is customary to maintain silence on KTX trains. If you need to talk on the phone, it is polite to step into the vestibule area between the carriages.
