It is important for passengers to know that navigating the station is intuitive. The building features a modern design with a spacious main hall on the ground floor, where ticket counters and platform exits are located. As this is a terminal station, it is difficult to get lost here: all tracks lead in one direction. Electronic display boards duplicate information in English, simplifying orientation for international guests.
Getting to Mokpo Station is effortless, as it is situated near the city's historic centre. Directly in front of the exit is a stop for city buses (e.g., routes No. 1, No. 2, No. 60), connecting the station to the bus terminal and main tourist areas. The journey from the bus terminal takes about 20–30 minutes.
For those preferring comfort, a taxi stand is organised at the main entrance. A trip from the Mokpo Ferry Terminal takes just 5–10 minutes. If you are staying in the old city centre (Yudalsan Mountain area), you can reach the station on foot in 10–15 minutes by following the main street, Yeongsan-ro.
Mokpo Station offers passengers all necessary modern conveniences. The main hall houses staffed ticket counters and automatic kiosks for self-service ticket purchase, which support the English language. For a comfortable wait, there is a spacious lounge with seating and televisions, where complimentary Wi-Fi is available.
Paid luggage lockers of various sizes are installed for travellers with bags. The station premises also feature clean restrooms, a nursing room, ATMs, and outlets for charging gadgets. The infrastructure is fully adapted for passengers with reduced mobility, including tactile paving and wide passageways.
Dining options within the station itself are limited but sufficient for a quick start. Typically, a Storyway convenience store operates in the hall, where you can purchase water, snacks, ready-made meals (kimbap, sandwiches), and coffee. Small coffee shops or bakeries with fresh pastries are also often found inside.
If you have time before departure, we recommend stepping out to the station square. Within a 5-minute walk, there are numerous local restaurants and cafes. Here, you can try traditional Korean dishes or the famous Mokpo seafood at quite affordable prices (average bill 10,000 – 15,000 won).
The history of Mokpo Railway Station began in 1913, when it opened as the terminus of the Honam Line. In the first half of the 20th century, the station played a strategic role in transporting cargo, especially cotton and grain, to the seaport. This made Mokpo one of the key industrial centres of that time.
Over the past century, the station has been rebuilt and modernised multiple times. A crucial milestone was the launch of high-speed KTX services in 2004, which required infrastructure upgrades. The modern station building, combining functionality and aesthetics, was constructed to handle the growing passenger flow and serve as a symbol of the region's development.
Arrival time: It is recommended to arrive at the station at least 20 minutes before departure. Trains in South Korea run strictly on schedule, and boarding closes a few minutes before departure.
Tickets: For popular destinations (especially Seoul), tickets sell out quickly on weekends. Try to book them in advance via the Korail app or website. Printing the ticket is not necessary; a QR code on your smartphone is sufficient.
Luggage and safety: KTX carriages have special racks for large luggage near the entrance. The station is safe at any time of day; however, if waiting at night, it is better to stay in the well-lit main hall near the duty staff.
