What to Do

The main reason to visit Miss Elliott at Hock Bee is for the culinary experimentation. Be sure to try the signature Daging Salai Carbonara with smoked beef or the original Mui Heong Aglio Olio, which features local salted fish. For dessert, we recommend ordering the famous Puding Diraja Pahang—the royal dessert that has become a signature of the region.

Besides the food, take some time to explore the interior. Here you can see an antique red wooden sign with gold Chinese characters, restored according to feng shui principles, and an elegant sculptural bar. Many cozy zones, ranging from open halls to semi-private corners, allow you to find the perfect spot for both a lively group or a romantic date.

For fans of aesthetics, this place is an excellent photo spot. The unusual Art Deco windows and the play of shadows on the old walls provide a magnificent backdrop for shots. Additionally, the cafe offers fast Wi-Fi, making it a convenient spot for those who want to combine a cup of great coffee with planning their further route through the city.

Getting There

The venue is located in the very heart of the city at 10, Jalan Besar. Thanks to its location on the main street, getting here is quite easy. If you are staying at central hotels, such as the Hyatt Place Kuantan, a walk to the cafe will take only about 10–15 minutes.

For those who prefer comfort, a taxi or Grab service is an ideal option. The journey from Kuantan Airport (KUA) by car takes approximately 30 minutes (a distance of about 25 km). You can also use local buses that stop along Jalan Besar.

If you plan to arrive by private or rental car, a nice bonus is the availability of free street parking right near the entrance. Use the coordinates 3.8065155, 103.3289953 for precise navigation in Google Maps.

History & Facts

The Hock Bee Brothers Building, which houses the cafe today, has stood on Jalan Besar for over half a century. It is an important part of pre-war Kuantan and stands out with its unique facade featuring five niches and characteristic vertical ribs. For locals, this place was long a symbol of the city's business activity.

In 2022, the building was given a new lease on life through an extensive restoration by the JUJURWORK studio. The designers managed the near-impossible: they preserved the authentic 1960s spirit while transforming old office spaces into a modern art space. During the process, the original mosaic floor and wooden shutters, which now serve as stylish zone dividers, were carefully restored.

An interesting detail concerns the historical sign with Chinese characters: before work began, the owners consulted a feng shui master to properly cleanse and position this artifact. Today, Miss Elliott at Hock Bee is more than just an eatery; it's a true cultural hub where Art Deco architecture harmoniously intertwines with the Malay and Chinese heritage of the region.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy the atmosphere of this place, we recommend setting aside 1.5 to 3 hours for your visit. An hour is plenty for a leisurely lunch or brunch, while the remaining time should be spent exploring the unique interior and architectural details.

If you are into photography, budget a little more time: the geometry of the windows and the play of light on the 1960s mosaic floor create perfect conditions for shots. An evening visit for a full dinner and desserts might also last longer, as the cozy setting encourages long conversations.
