Travelling through Campeche International Airport (CPE), also known as Aeropuerto Internacional Ing. Alberto Acuña Ongay, can be an easy and pleasant start or end to your adventure in Mexico. To make your experience as comfortable as possible, use these tips.
Arrival time at the airport: Although the airport in Campeche is relatively small, it is recommended to arrive 2-2.5 hours before a domestic flight departure and 3 hours before an international one. This will give you enough time to go through all procedures without haste, especially during peak tourist seasons.
Check-in and Security Control: To save time, use online check-in, which is offered by most airlines. This will allow you to head straight to baggage drop-off or, if you are travelling light, to the security screening zone. The security control procedure is standard: be prepared to remove laptops, tablets, and liquids in containers up to 100 ml from your hand luggage.
Seat Selection on the Plane: Want to enjoy views of the Gulf of Mexico coast? Choose a window seat. If the ability to stretch your legs or exit quickly after landing is more important to you, an aisle seat is more suitable. Seats in the front of the cabin usually allow you to leave the aircraft faster.
Hand Luggage: You are permitted to take personal items, documents, gadgets, necessary medication, and a change of clothes in your hand luggage. Liquids (perfume, shampoo, creams) can be carried in containers of no more than 100 ml, packed in a transparent bag. Weapons, explosives, flammable liquids, and sharp objects are prohibited.
Connecting Passengers: If you have a connecting flight, check during registration whether your luggage will be checked through to the final destination automatically. Upon arrival at the transfer airport, immediately check the departure gate number on the board — it may change.
Customs Control: When entering Mexico, you will need to fill out a customs declaration. Be prepared for the "red and green channel" system, where selection for inspection may be random. Honestly declare all goods subject to mandatory declaration to avoid fines.
Saving Time and Money: A pre-booked transfer from the airport often costs less than a taxi on the spot. Bring an empty reusable water bottle with you — it can be filled at drinking fountains after passing security control, saving on buying expensive water.
Flight Delays: In case of a flight delay or cancellation, immediately contact your airline representative. Find out about your rights: depending on the length of the delay, you may be provided with vouchers for food, drinks, or even hotel accommodation. Having travel insurance will also help compensate for unforeseen expenses.
