The Cathedral Basilica of San Juan de los Lagos is the heart and soul of the city of San Juan de los Lagos, located in the state of Jalisco. This magnificent temple is not only the city's main Catholic shrine but also one of the most important pilgrimage centers in all of Mexico. Every year, more than seven million believers visit, making the basilica the second most visited religious site in the country after the famous Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
The basilica building is an outstanding architectural monument built in the Spanish Baroque style. Its construction began in 1732. The pink stone facade, majestic towers, and elegant carvings leave an indelible impression. The interior is striking in its splendor: a Latin cross floor plan, high vaults with Gothic elements, and a luxurious altar create an atmosphere of solemnity and spiritual uplift.

The main relic of the temple is a small miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary, to which numerous healings and miracles are attributed. The story of the first miracle, which occurred in 1623 when the statue reportedly brought a deceased young acrobat girl back to life, marked the beginning of mass pilgrimage. Since then, the flow of believers and tourists wishing to see the shrine and ask for intercession has never ceased, turning the basilica into a place of hope and faith for millions of people.
