The climate of Zagora can be described as typical desert and arid. Located in southern Morocco, the city is bathed in sunshine almost all year round, and rain here is an exceptional rarity. For travellers, this means guaranteed clear skies, but it also requires readiness for conditions characteristic of the desert, where the dryness of the air is constantly felt.

Seasonal differences are quite pronounced, especially regarding temperatures. Summer in Zagora can be extremely hot: in July and August, average daily highs exceed 40°C, making the midday hours unsuitable for active walks. Winter, on the other hand, is distinguished by mildness: during the day, the air warms up to a comfortable 18–20°C, however, nights can be quite cool, with temperatures dropping to 6–8°C.

The main weather feature of the region is phenomenal stability and the almost complete absence of precipitation. According to statistics, rainy days happen here extremely rarely—literally once or twice a month even in the nominally "wet" season, and in summer, the probability of rain is zero. This makes Zagora an ideal destination for sun lovers, but reminds one of the importance of protection against heat and dehydration.

The climate in Zagora is typical for the pre-desert regions of Morocco: dry weather with a large number of sunny days prevails here. Summer in the city is truly sweltering. The hottest month is July, when the average daytime temperature reaches an extreme 41.3°C, and in August, it stays at the level of 40°C. This is a time of dry heat, which is tolerated slightly easier than humid heat, but still requires caution and sun protection from travellers.

Winter, conversely, is notable for mildness and comfort during the daytime, making this season attractive for excursions. In January, the coldest month of the year, the air warms up during the day to a pleasant average of 18.6°C. However, nights during this period can be truly cold: the thermometer often drops to 6–7°C. Spring and autumn offer an ideal balance with warm days (around 25–28°C) and fresh evenings.

An important feature of the local climate is the significant temperature fluctuations throughout the day, characteristic of the desert. The difference between the daily maximum and the nightly minimum can be 12–15 degrees. For example, in June, after 37-degree heat, the night brings coolness of around 23°C. Therefore, when packing for a trip to Zagora even in the warm season, it is worth bringing long-sleeved clothing for evening walks.

Zagora is distinguished by an extremely arid desert climate, so precipitation here is a rare and exceptional phenomenon. Throughout the year, clear and dry weather prevails, making this region ideal for those who want to avoid rain during their travels. Humidity remains low, and the sun shines almost constantly.

There is no clearly defined rainy season in the city. The summer months, especially May, June, and July, are absolutely dry: statistics show a complete absence of rainy days during this period. In winter and the shoulder seasons, the situation changes insignificantly—the number of days with precipitation rarely exceeds one or two per month (for example, in February, September, and November), and the volume remains minimal.

Even when the sky turns grey, rains in Zagora are usually brief and weak in nature. Often it is just a light drizzle that quickly evaporates under the hot Moroccan sun. Snow does not fall in this region, as even in the coldest winter months, such as January and December, the air temperature remains high enough to prevent precipitation from freezing.

When packing for Zagora, remember that you are heading to a region with a distinct desert climate. In summer, intense heat reigns here, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C, so the foundation of your wardrobe should be loose clothing made from natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton and linen, preferably in light shades. Be sure to bring a wide-brimmed hat, high-quality sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen, as the sun here is very active.

In winter and the shoulder seasons, the weather becomes more contrasting: with comfortable daytime temperatures, nights can be quite cold, sometimes with the thermometer dropping to 6–8°C. At this time of year, it is best to use the layering principle: pack a warm sweater, a fleece jacket, or a windbreaker in your suitcase to keep you warm after sunset. Rain in this region is a great rarity, so an umbrella and raincoat will hardly be useful to you.

For walking on rocky terrain and sands, comfortable closed shoes are necessary, for example, light trekking boots or trainers. We also recommend bringing a light scarf or shawl, which will protect your face from wind and sand during excursions into the desert. Given the very dry air, do not forget to take moisturising skin products and lip balm to feel comfortable throughout the entire trip.
