Inhambane welcomes travellers with a warm tropical climate that makes this city an attractive destination almost all year round. Extreme cold never occurs here, and the weather is remarkably stable: even in the "coolest" months, the air remains comfortably warm. The proximity of the Indian Ocean plays an important role, softening the heat with pleasant sea breezes.

Two main periods can be distinguished during the year. The hot and humid season lasts approximately from November to March, when the thermometer often rises to +29 °C, and the number of rainy days increases noticeably. This is a time of lush greenery, although tourists should be prepared for periodic rainfall, especially in January and February.

From May to September comes a drier and milder season. During this time, the probability of rain is minimized, and the days become clear and sunny. The air temperature drops slightly, averaging around +21…+24 °C, creating ideal conditions for excursions and outdoor activities without exhausting heat.

The climate in Inhambane is characterised by enviable stability and comfortable warmth throughout the year. The hottest period falls on the summer months of the Southern Hemisphere — from December to February. At this time, the average air temperature is about 26–27°C, and daily maximums regularly reach the 29°C mark. This time is perfect for lovers of true tropical heat, when the air is warmed to the maximum.

The winter season, which lasts from June to August, brings pleasant freshness but is never truly cold. July is considered the coolest month of the year with an average temperature of about 21°C. Even on the "coldest" nights, the thermometer rarely drops below 17–18°C, and during the day the air comfortably warms up to 24°C, creating excellent conditions for excursions and active leisure without exhausting heat.

A characteristic feature of the temperature regime in this region is the small amplitude of fluctuations between day and night readings. The difference is usually only 3–5 degrees, which ensures a soft and predictable atmosphere. Thanks to this, tourists can enjoy their holiday in Mozambique without sudden temperature changes, feeling comfortable both at noon and during evening walks.

Precipitation in Inhambane is distributed unevenly throughout the year, forming distinct wet and dry seasons. The highest probability of rain falls at the beginning of the year: January and February are the "wettest" months. According to statistics, about 17 rainy days are recorded in February, and about 16 in January. During this period, travellers should be prepared for frequent rainfall, which, however, brings pleasant freshness on hot days.

The dry season arrives in the middle of the year, when the number of wet days decreases significantly. The driest month is considered to be August, when it rains on average for only 3 days, and the volume of precipitation is minimal. July and September are also favourable for beach holidays in terms of weather: in these months, only 4–5 days with precipitation are recorded.

Since Inhambane is located in a tropical climate, precipitation here falls exclusively in the form of rain; snow does not occur in this region even in the coolest months (June-July). Transitional periods, such as April and November, are characterised by a moderate frequency of rain (about 8–10 days per month), ensuring a smooth change of seasons.

When preparing for a trip to Inhambane, prefer clothing made from light natural fabrics, such as cotton and linen, which allow the skin to breathe. Since the climate here is warm all year round, T-shirts, shorts, and summer dresses will become the basis of your wardrobe. Do not forget swimwear, as the city is located on the coast, as well as a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the bright sun.

If your trip is planned for the period from June to August, when the temperature drops slightly (on average to 21°C), it is worth applying the principle of layering. During the day you will be comfortable in light clothing, but for evening walks and early mornings, we recommend bringing a light sweater, windbreaker, or cardigan, as it can be fresh. Comfortable walking shoes, such as trainers or sandals with good support, will be useful for city tours in any season.

In the summer months (from November to March) it becomes hotter, and the likelihood of precipitation increases — the number of rainy days can reach 16-17 per month. During this period, be sure to put a compact umbrella or a light raincoat in your suitcase. Regardless of the season, use sunscreen with a high protection factor, as ultraviolet radiation is active here even with variable cloudiness.
