Travellers should be prepared for frequent but warm tropical downpours, which bring pleasant freshness and sustain the region's lush greenery.

The climate in Surigao is distinguished by remarkable stability and tropical warmth all year round. Sharp seasonal fluctuations are practically non-existent here: the average annual temperature fluctuates within a very narrow range. The "coolest" months can technically be called January and February, when average readings hover around the +25.8°C mark. The peak heat usually begins in May, when the air warms up to an average of +27.5°C, and maximum daytime temperatures in the summer period and early autumn reach +29°C.

The summer season in this region of the Philippines can be described as moderately hot and humid. From May to September, the weather is stable, which is ideal for heat lovers, but without exhausting swelter—the thermometer practically never shows extremely high values here. Winter in the conventional sense is absent in Surigao: in December and January, the weather remains exceptionally mild and comfortable, reminiscent of a good European summer. This time of year offers pleasant coolness compared to the summer months but remains warm enough for any activities.

When packing for a trip to Surigao, you should plan for the warm and humid tropical climate that prevails here year-round. The air temperature is surprisingly stable and stays in a comfortable range from +25°C to +29°C, so the basis of your wardrobe should be light, breathable items. Give preference to T-shirts, shorts, and summer dresses made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen, or choose sportswear made from quick-drying synthetics, which is especially relevant in high humidity conditions. Do not forget reliable sun protection: a hat, high-quality sunglasses, and cream with high SPF are mandatory even in cloudy weather.

It is important to consider that precipitation in this region falls quite often throughout the year: even in the relatively "dry" spring months, the number of rainy days is high, and in December and January, it can rain almost daily. Therefore, a light raincoat-poncho or a compact, sturdy umbrella are essential items in your luggage. Heavy waterproof jackets are not worth taking; it will be too hot in them. It is better to choose comfortable footwear that is not afraid of water, such as trekking sandals or Crocs, which will dry quickly after a sudden downpour.

In addition to clothing, take care of useful accessories. Since Surigao is often a transit point for trips to the islands, be sure to take swimwear and a waterproof dry bag to protect electronics and documents from splashes and moisture. Despite the outdoor heat, powerful air conditioners often operate in public transport, on ferries, and in shopping centres, so a light long-sleeved shirt or a thin windbreaker will be useful so as not to get cold during transfers.
