The climate in Sibiu can be characterised as temperate-continental, typical for the Transylvania region. All four seasons are clearly defined here, allowing tourists to enjoy a variety of natural colours: from blooming spring to snowy winter. Generally, the weather is quite mild and comfortable, without extreme temperature fluctuations, although the proximity of the mountains has a refreshing influence.

Summer in the city is warm and pleasant, ideal for long walks through the historic centre. The warmest months are July and August, when daytime temperatures often rise to 25–26°C. However, travellers should remember that late spring and early summer (May and June) are the periods with the highest number of rainy days, so an umbrella might come in handy during your trip.

Winter brings coolness to Sibiu: the average temperature in December and January hovers around zero or drops slightly below, creating a fairytale atmosphere in the old town. Autumn, especially September and October, often delights with dry and stable weather when the heat subsides and rainfall drops to a minimum, making this season an excellent time for a relaxing sightseeing holiday.

This time is perfect for long walks and sightseeing, as the moderate heat is not tiring.

When planning a trip, it is worth considering the daily temperature fluctuations characteristic of the region. Even in the warmest summer months, the difference between daytime warmth and night-time coolness can be more than 10 degrees: for example, after an August day of 26°C, the night may bring freshness of around 15°C. Spring and autumn serve as mild transitional periods, when in April and October the average temperature holds at 9–11°C, which will appeal to lovers of cool and fresh weather.

October is characterised by the lowest number of inclement days (only about 8), making it a wonderful month for long walks and sightseeing. August and September also delight travellers with relatively dry weather, when the number of days with precipitation drops to 10.

When planning a trip to Sibiu, it is important to consider the distinct seasonality of the local climate. Since the historic city centre is paved with old cobblestones, the first and most important item on your list should be comfortable flat shoes. Regardless of the season, the principle of layering your clothing will be your best friend: the weather here can change quickly, so the ability to take off or put on an extra layer will ensure your comfort throughout the day.

For a summer trip (from June to August), when temperatures rise to a pleasant +25...26°C, take light clothing made of natural fabrics, sunglasses, and sunscreen. However, do not get too relaxed: statistics show that summer, especially June, sees quite a lot of rainy days (up to 16 days a month). Therefore, a compact umbrella or a light raincoat are mandatory accessories that won't take up much space in your luggage but will save your walk.

In winter and early spring, the city welcomes guests with cool weather, and the thermometer often drops below zero. During this period, be sure to pack a warm windproof jacket, hat, scarf, and gloves. Given the high humidity and the likelihood of precipitation in the form of snow or rain, it is worth taking care of warm waterproof shoes so that long walks through Christmas markets or museums remain cosy.
