How to Get to the Airport

Ignatyevo Airport (BQS) is located 20 kilometres northwest of Blagoveshchensk, one of the key cities in the Russian Far East. Getting from the city centre to the air gateway is possible via several methods suitable for any budget and comfort level.

Public transport is the most economical option. Bus No. 8 runs regularly along the "Blagoveshchensk — Airport" route. It departs from the city bus station and passes through central districts. The journey takes on average 40–60 minutes depending on traffic conditions, and the ticket cost is significantly lower than other alternatives. This method is ideal for travellers with light luggage.

Taxi or transfer is the fastest and most convenient method. The trip from the city centre to the terminal will take about 20–30 minutes. Popular taxi hailing apps operate in Blagoveshchensk, allowing you to calculate the cost in advance. If you are travelling with large luggage, children, or departing at night, it is worth considering booking a private transfer — the driver will meet you at the specified location and assist with your belongings.

For those planning to actively move around the region, car rental is an excellent solution. Rental points operate at the airport and in the city, where you can hire a car for the entire duration of your trip. It is recommended to book a vehicle in advance, especially during the high season. Those arriving at the airport in their own vehicle can use the paid parking located on the station square. Both short-term and long-term tariffs are available.

Terminals and Map

Ignatyevo Airport (BQS) is distinguished by a compact and intuitive structure, which is a significant plus for travellers: it is practically impossible to get lost here. The terminal complex is a single building, functionally divided into sectors for servicing domestic and international flights, so long transfers between terminals are not required.

The main airport layout is simple and logical. On the ground floor, there is a general area with check-in counters, information boards, and an arrivals area with luggage claim belts. Here, travellers can also find luggage wrapping services and small kiosks. The first floor is dedicated to the "secure area": pre-flight security checks take place here, followed by boarding. A separate customs and passport control zone is provided for international flight passengers.

One of the key features of the airport is the speed of procedures. Due to the modest passenger flow (compared to capital hubs), queues rarely form here. Nevertheless, it is recommended to arrive for domestic flights 1.5–2 hours in advance, and for international flights 2.5–3 hours before departure, to check in luggage and pass security control without haste.

For comfortable waiting, the terminal features cafes, souvenir shops offering products from the Amur Region, and a superior comfort lounge (business lounge) located in the secure area. Navigation inside the building is duplicated in English, and electronic boards allow you to easily track flight status from anywhere in the waiting hall.

Boarding is usually carried out through stationary exits followed by transfer to the aircraft via apron buses, as there are no jet bridges in the old terminal. Overall, Ignatyevo Airport leaves the impression of a cosy and calm air harbour, where all necessary services are within walking distance.

Airport History

The history of Ignatyevo Airport in Blagoveshchensk is a chronicle of aviation development in the Far East. Officially, air connections with the city began back in the 1930s, but the modern airport in the village of Ignatyevo was built much later. The decision to create it was made in the late 1950s, and the first flight on the route Khabarovsk — Blagoveshchensk — Kuybyshevka-Vostochnaya was performed in January 1961 on a Li-2 aircraft. A full-fledged terminal building was put into operation in 1964, which is considered the founding year of the modern air gateway.

A key stage in the airport's development was the reconstruction in the 1980s, when a concrete runway was built. This allowed for the reception of larger and more modern aircraft for that time, such as the Tu-154, Il-76, and Yak-42. In 1997, the airport was granted international status, which opened new opportunities for communication with neighbouring countries, primarily China. This became an important milestone, given the border location of Blagoveshchensk.

In the 21st century, the airport entered an era of large-scale modernisation. In 2010, a new terminal complex was opened, uniting domestic and international flight halls under one roof. Later, the runway was reconstructed again and extended to 2800 metres, removing restrictions on receiving wide-body long-haul aircraft. The culmination of development was the construction of a new modern terminal for domestic airlines, which significantly increased throughput and the level of passenger comfort, confirming Ignatyevo's status as a key aviation hub of the Amur Region.

Services and Facilities

Ignatyevo Airport (BQS) offers passengers all necessary services for a comfortable wait for their flight. In the modern terminal, you will find amenities that will make your journey more pleasant from the very beginning.

You can have a snack or drink coffee before departure at one of the cafes or diners located in the terminal building. Shops are also available here, where you can purchase souvenirs with Amur Region symbols, travel goods, and the latest press.

For passengers who value enhanced comfort and business travellers, special zones are provided at the airport. In the VIP Lounge, you can relax in a secluded atmosphere, enjoying beverages and snacks. It is also an excellent place to work in silence. For negotiations or meetings, the airport offers conference room services. The general waiting hall also has everything necessary for a convenient stay.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, allowing you to stay connected or handle work matters. Special stands and power outlets located in the waiting halls are provided for charging gadgets.

A mother and child room is equipped for families with small children. All conditions for baby care are created here: there are changing tables, feeding areas, and a play zone. Passengers with reduced mobility are provided with comprehensive assistance, including accompaniment during check-in and boarding, as well as specially equipped restrooms.

A 24-hour medical point operates at the airport, where qualified medical assistance can be obtained. ATMs of leading banks are installed for financial transactions. If you need to stay overnight, a hotel offering cosy rooms for rest is located in the immediate vicinity of the terminal.

Where to Eat

At Ignatyevo Airport (BQS), travellers can comfortably have a snack or a full meal by choosing a suitable establishment both in the public zone and after passing security control. The choice of food outlets caters to the needs of those looking for a full lunch and those needing just a quick coffee before departure.

For a substantial meal before flight check-in, Café "Polyot" (Flight), located on the ground floor of the terminal in the public area, is ideal. Its key advantage is 24-hour operation, which is especially valuable for passengers on night and early morning flights. They offer a varied menu with dishes of Russian and European cuisine: hot soups, main courses, salads, and fresh pastries. This is the best place to have a leisurely lunch or dinner. A set lunch will cost on average 800–1200 Rubles.

After passing pre-flight security, in the "secure" departure zone on the first floor, there is a chain coffee shop "Shokoladnitsa". This is a wonderful option for those who want a quick snack or coffee right before boarding. The assortment includes signature coffee drinks, teas, desserts, sandwiches, and light snacks. The coffee shop's schedule is fully adapted to the flight schedule. A cup of aromatic coffee and a dessert will cost approximately 400–600 Rubles here.

Prices in the airport establishments are predictably higher than in city cafes in Blagoveshchensk, but they correspond to the average level for airports in Russia. Specialised vegan or gluten-free menus may not be available, however, vegetarians can find vegetable salads, side dishes, or meat-free pastries in the assortment.

Traveller Tips

Planning a trip through Ignatyevo Airport in the city of Blagoveshchensk will be easier if you take note of a few useful tips. By following these recommendations, you can avoid unnecessary stress and make your journey more comfortable.

Airport Arrival Time. The standard recommendation is to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before a domestic flight departure and 3 hours before an international one. This will give you a sufficient buffer of time for a calm passage through all pre-flight formalities, especially during peak hours.

Check-in and Security. To save time, use the online check-in service on your airline's website. This will allow you to choose a seat and receive a boarding pass in advance. At the airport, you will only need to drop off your luggage at a special counter. When passing security control, be prepared to remove laptops, tablets, and liquid containers from your hand luggage.

Seat Selection on the Plane. A window seat is ideal for those who love to gaze at the clouds and views of the earth. An aisle seat will be appreciated by those who prefer to stand up and leave freely without disturbing neighbours. If you need more legroom, pay attention to seats near emergency exits, but note that certain restrictions apply to them.

Hand Luggage. Remember the rules for carrying liquids: containers with a volume of no more than 100 ml are allowed, packed in one transparent bag with a total volume of no more than 1 litre. It is prohibited to take sharp objects, weapons, flammable, and toxic substances on board. Always check the rules of the specific airline, as they may differ slightly.

Passengers with Connections. If you have a connecting flight, clarify when checking in your luggage whether it will be automatically transferred to the next flight or if you need to collect it and check it in again. Allow extra time for the transfer, especially if it involves changing terminals.

Customs Control. When departing on international flights, follow the "Green Channel" signs if you have no goods subject to declaration. If you are carrying something that requires declaration (for example, large sums of cash or cultural valuables), you must pass through the "Red Channel".

Saving Time and Money. Book a taxi in advance through an official app or use public transport to get to the airport. Prices for food and drinks in the "clean zone" are traditionally high, so you can take an empty bottle with you and fill it with water from a drinking fountain after security.

What to Do in Case of Flight Delay. In the event of a flight delay or cancellation, first contact your airline representative. Depending on the length of the wait, passengers are entitled to drinks, hot meals, and for long delays — hotel accommodation. Keep all documents and receipts, as they may be useful for obtaining compensation.
