Getting Here: Introduction

Kemerovo is the industrial capital of Kuzbass, situated on the banks of the Tom River in Western Siberia. Combining industrial power with warm Siberian hospitality, the city offers travellers convenient transport accessibility thanks to its own airport and a developed road network. You can get here by a direct flight, by railway, or by car, enjoying picturesque taiga landscapes along the way.

By Plane

The fastest way to reach the capital of Kuzbass is by air. The International Airport Kemerovo (KEJ) receives regular flights and is located just a few kilometres from the city centre, making arrival extremely convenient.

If direct tickets are unavailable, travellers often choose to fly to neighbouring major cities. The nearest alternative airports are located in Tomsk (145 km), Novokuznetsk (189 km), and Novosibirsk (206 km), from where the journey can be continued via ground transport.

Rail connections link Kemerovo with other regions of the country, and trains arrive at the Kemerovo-Passazhirskaya station. Direct trains operate here, including a premium train from the capital; however, it is worth noting that the city is located on a branch of the Trans-Siberian Railway, so travel time may be longer compared to travelling to major junction stations.

To save time, many tourists prefer to take a train to Yurga station or major transport hubs such as Novosibirsk and Novokuznetsk. From there, it is easy to reach the final destination by regular buses or taxis, which often proves faster than a direct railway journey.

The city has no major railway stations. Nearest cities with rail connections:

Tips for Travellers

To ensure your trip to Kemerovo goes smoothly and leaves only positive impressions, we have prepared a list of useful recommendations.

  1. Seasonal clothing. The climate here is sharply continental: in winter, a warm down jacket and hat are essential (frosts down to -30°C are not uncommon), while in summer, light clothing is suitable, though a windbreaker is a must for cool evenings.
  2. Transport. The city network is well-developed and includes trams, trolleybuses, and buses. For fast and comfortable movement, it is convenient to use popular taxi apps.
  3. Finances. The main currency is the Russian Ruble. Bank cards are accepted everywhere in shops and restaurants, but carrying some cash for small expenses is helpful.
  4. Health and water. It is recommended to drink tap water only after boiling or filtering; buying bottled water is preferable. Pharmacies are common in the city and stay open late.
  5. Language. The official language is Russian. Staff in large hotels may speak English, but for communication on the streets or in transport, it is better to learn a few basic phrases or use a translation app.
  6. Nature in the city. A unique feature of the city is the relic "Sosnovy Bor" (Pine Forest) right within the city limits. This is an excellent place for walks, but during the warm season, do not forget to use insect repellent.

Following these simple tips will help you feel confident and comfortable while exploring the capital of Kuzbass.
