Until recently, the main advantage of Khurba Airport was its compactness and functionality. The small terminal allowed passengers to quickly complete pre-flight procedures, while the route network provided connections to key cities in the Far East, such as Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Currently, preparations are underway at the airport for a major modernisation of its infrastructure. It is planned that after the reconstruction of the runway and terminal, the air harbour will be able to accommodate larger aircraft, which will allow for the restoration of direct air service with Moscow and other major cities in Russia.
