Maribor Edvard Rusjan International Airport (MBX), named after the pioneer of Slovenian aviation, is the second-largest airport in Slovenia. Located near the country's second-largest city, it serves as an air gateway to the picturesque Podravska region, known for its vineyards and Alpine landscapes. Despite having a modern terminal and infrastructure for international flights, the airport is currently used mainly for pilot training, private aviation, and charter transport, while retaining potential for future development.

Despite modest passenger traffic, Maribor Airport possesses several advantages. In 2012, a new passenger terminal was opened here, capable of providing comfortable service to travellers. The airport has a strategically advantageous location near highways connecting Slovenia with Austria and Croatia. An important feature is its role as a popular pilot training base for many European airlines, which indicates the high quality of the infrastructure, including two runways — asphalt and grass. The country's oldest aero club, "Letalski center Maribor," founded in 1927, is also based here.
