Kismayo welcomes travellers with a hot tropical climate, characterised by consistently high temperatures throughout the year. Thanks to its proximity to the equator and the Indian Ocean, cold weather is practically non-existent here: the average air temperature confidently stays within the range of +26°C to +30°C. This makes the city an attractive destination for those seeking constant warmth, although high humidity should be taken into account during certain periods.

Throughout the year, the weather shifts from dry periods to rainy seasons. The beginning of the year, particularly January and February, is distinguished by clear skies and a complete absence of rainfall, which is ideal for a beach holiday. With the arrival of spring, especially in April and May, the number of rainy days increases sharply, marking the start of the wet season. A similar pattern is observed in autumn, although precipitation is often short-lived and brings long-awaited freshness.

A surprising feature of the climate in this part of Somalia is the minimal temperature amplitude. The difference between the "coolest" month — July — and the hottest spring months is practically imperceptible to the tourist. Even the nights here remain very warm, rarely cooling below +23°C, allowing for comfortable time spent outdoors at any time of day.

The climate in Kismayo is distinguished by enviable stability and high temperatures throughout the year, which is typical for equatorial latitudes. The usual concept of changing seasons is practically absent here: the weather always remains summery warm or hot. The sweltering period falls during the spring months, especially March and April, when the average daily temperature reaches its peak, rising to +32.8°C. At this time, the sun is particularly active, and the air warms up to the maximum.

Interestingly, the calendar summer (June, July, and August) is a period of relative "coolness" here. In July, the average temperature drops to an annual minimum of +26.5°C, and daytime figures rarely exceed +29.3°C. This time of year may seem the most comfortable for travellers, as the extreme heat recedes slightly, giving way to a milder warmth.

The winter months, conversely, are characterised by a return of high temperatures: in January and February, thermometers once again strive towards the +32°C mark. Daily temperature fluctuations in the region are quite smoothed out. The difference between the daytime heat and the night-time coolness is usually around 5–7 degrees. Even on the "coldest" nights of August, the temperature does not drop below +23.7°C, making the evenings exceptionally warm and pleasant for walks.

When planning a trip to Kismayo, it is worth noting that the rainfall pattern here has its own unique features. The beginning of the year can be safely called the ideal time for sun lovers: January and February are an absolutely dry period when the probability of rain is reduced to zero. During these months, the sky remains clear, creating excellent conditions for walks and relaxation on the coast.

The situation changes with the arrival of spring, when the number of "wet" days increases sharply. The peak falls in April and May, when precipitation can occur for 17–21 days per month. However, travellers need not fear prolonged downpours: judging by meteorological data, the volume of precipitation remains minimal (about 3 mm), indicating light drizzle or short-lived rains that are quickly replaced by sunshine.

The second half of the year also demonstrates a certain cyclicality. In summer and early autumn, rains occur less frequently but are still possible, while November sees another small spike in rainfall activity (about 14 rainy days). In general, the city's climate allows for trips to be planned practically all year round, as even in the cloudiest months, rains are rarely heavy.

When packing for Kismayo, prioritise lightness and comfort. Since the average air temperature here remains stable around 26–30°C year-round, the foundation of your wardrobe should be items made from natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton, linen, or viscose. Given local cultural traditions and the active equatorial sun, preference should be given to loose-fitting clothing in light tones that covers the shoulders and knees. Long sleeves and light trousers will not only show respect for customs but also provide excellent protection for your skin against overheating and sunburn.

Particular attention should be paid to sun protection and accessories. Be sure to pack sunscreen with a high SPF factor, high-quality sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to protect against heatstroke.
