General Weather Overview

Ibiza boasts a classic Mediterranean climate, making it an attractive destination almost all year round. This climate is characterized by mild winters with little rainfall and long, hot, and sunny summers. This creates ideal conditions for both relaxed beach holidays and active exploration of the island.

Two main seasons are clearly distinguishable in Ibiza. The summer months, especially from June to August, are characterized by high temperatures, averaging 24-28°C (with maximums above 30°C in July and August), and minimal precipitation – July is often completely dry, and there is practically no rainfall in June either. Winters, from December to February, remain mild, with an average temperature of about 13-14°C. Spring and autumn are pleasant transitional periods with comfortably warm weather. Although the number of rainy days increases slightly during the autumn-spring period (for example, in March, September, and November), the total amount remains insignificant, allowing you to enjoy your holiday without much interference from the weather.

Temperature

The temperature pattern in Ibiza demonstrates comfortable Mediterranean features throughout the year. The annual temperature progression is smooth, without sharp extremes. The hottest months are traditionally July and August, when the average daytime temperature steadily stays above 27°C, and maximum values often exceed 30°C. The coolest period is considered to be January, with an average temperature of about 13.0°C, followed by February with figures slightly higher, around 13.4°C.

Summer months in Ibiza are a time of real warmth. Starting from June, when the average temperature is about 24.2°C, the island warms up more and more. In July and August, the thermometer often rises to 30-31°C during the day (average maximums of 30.7°C and 30.9°C respectively), creating ideal conditions for a beach holiday. Nights also remain very warm, with minimum temperatures at the height of summer (July-August) rarely dropping below 23.9-24.6°C. Diurnal temperature fluctuations in the summer period are most pronounced, averaging 6-7°C, which means a pleasant but still noticeable cooling of the air after sunset.

Winter in Ibiza is distinguished by its mildness and absence of frost. In December, January, and February, the average temperature fluctuates in the range of 13.0-14.4°C. Daytime maximums in these months usually reach 15-16.5°C, which is quite comfortable for walking and exploring the island. Nighttime temperatures drop on average to 10.7-12.4°C, so warm clothing in the evening and at night will not go amiss. The transitional seasons, spring and autumn, are characterized by a gradual rise or fall in temperature, offering pleasant weather for those who prefer to avoid the summer heat. For example, in May, the average temperature is already around 19.8°C, and in October, it still holds at a comfortable level of 21.3°C.

Precipitation

Ibiza is characterized by very low rainfall throughout the year, which is typical for its Mediterranean climate. The island experiences a clearly defined dry season, which falls on the summer months. During the rest of the year, the amount of precipitation also remains minimal, and even in the "wettest" periods, rains usually do not last long.

The absolute driest months in Ibiza are July, when on average not a single millimeter of precipitation falls and not a single rainy day is recorded, and June, also with zero rainfall and only two days when rain is possible. A slight increase in precipitation occurs in autumn: in September, October, and November, an average of 2 mm of precipitation falls per month, which is the maximum annual figure for the island. In terms of the number of rainy days, the "wettest" month can be considered March (average 8 days), followed by April, September, and November (7 days each).

Even in those months when the highest number of rainy days is recorded, the nature of precipitation in Ibiza is, as a rule, non-intensive. Given the extremely small average amount of precipitation in millimeters (1-2 mm), it is most often a matter of short-term and light rains or drizzle, rather than heavy downpours. Winter precipitation also falls in the form of rain; snow is an extremely rare phenomenon for Ibiza due to the mild temperatures.

What to Pack

When planning a trip to Ibiza, it is important to consider its Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, slightly more humid winters. In summer, especially from June to August, when average temperatures reach 24-28°C and maximums can exceed 30°C, and precipitation is practically absent, your suitcase should be filled with light and breathable clothing. Be sure to take swimwear, shorts, T-shirts, sundresses, a hat, sunglasses, and high SPF cream. For evening walks or sun protection during the day, a light cover-up or long-sleeved shirt will be useful. Don't forget comfortable sandals or flip-flops for the beach and light shoes for walking around the city.

In the off-season and winter (from December to February), when the average temperature hovers around 13-14°C and nights can be cool (about 10-12°C), the best solution is layering. Take T-shirts that can be worn under a jumper or light jacket, jeans, or comfortable trousers. A windbreaker or mid-season jacket will be very handy, especially in the periods from March to May and from September to November, when the weather can be changeable. Although the amount of precipitation in Ibiza is minimal (1-2 mm per month), and there are few rainy days (from 0 in July to 8 in March), a compact umbrella or light raincoat wouldn't hurt, especially if you are traveling in spring or autumn. At any time of the year, comfortable shoes will be useful for long walks and exploring the island.
