To ensure your journey through Menorca Airport goes as smoothly as possible, take advantage of our tips. The terminal, located near the city of Mahón, is particularly busy during the summer tourist season, so a little preparation will help avoid stress.
Arrival Time at the Airport: In peak months (June to September), we recommend arriving at the airport no later than 2.5-3 hours before international flights and 2 hours before domestic flights within Spain. At other times of the year, 1.5-2 hours will be sufficient. This will give you enough time to check in, drop off luggage, and pass through security control without rushing.
Check-in and Security Control: The fastest way to check in for a flight is to do it online on your airline's website. This allows you to proceed immediately to baggage drop (if you have any) or to security. When passing through security, prepare liquids (in containers up to 100 ml, packed in a transparent bag) and electronic devices in advance to speed up the process.
Seat Selection on the Plane: Menorca is a picturesque island. To enjoy the views during takeoff or landing, try to choose a window seat. Choosing the direction is difficult as landing depends on the wind, but in any case, beautiful panoramas of the coast and the Mediterranean Sea await you.
Hand Luggage Rules: Standard EU rules apply. Pay special attention to local delicacies: the famous Mahón cheese (Queso de Mahón) or sobrasada sausage (a cured meat spread) are best packed in checked luggage. Soft cheeses and paste-like products can be classified as liquids and will not pass security in hand luggage if their volume exceeds 100 ml.
Transfer Passengers: Menorca Airport mainly serves direct flights and is not a major transfer hub. If you do have a connection planned, ensure your luggage is checked through to your final destination. Intra-Schengen transfers usually happen quickly, but always leave a sufficient buffer of time between flights.
Customs Control: For travellers arriving from non-EU countries, standard customs rules apply. If you are flying from another European Union country, customs control is not required. Be prepared to present your passport at border control if you are arriving from a non-Schengen country.
Saving Time and Money: Book a transfer from the airport in advance — this is often cheaper than taking a taxi on the spot. Bring an empty reusable water bottle and fill it after passing security at special water fountains — this will save money on buying drinks.
In Case of Flight Delay: In the event of a flight delay, contact your airline's counter for information and, if applicable, vouchers for food or accommodation. In accordance with EU rules (Regulation 261/2004), you have the right to assistance and compensation depending on the flight distance and delay duration. The terminal has cafes, shops, and free Wi-Fi to help pass the time.
