Xpark Aquarium

About

Xpark aquarium is a modern, high-tech water world located in the city of Zhongli, Taiwan. It is the country's first "urban aquarium," located right within the Landmark Plaza shopping center. It uses a unique approach that combines real marine ecosystems with advanced digital technologies to create a fully immersive experience for visitors. Xpark is not just an aquarium, but a whole universe where the boundaries between reality and fantasy are blurred.

On an impressive area of nearly 15,000 square meters, more than 30,000 marine and terrestrial animals live, representing about 300 different species. Guests can explore 13 themed zones, each recreating a unique environment—from tropical rainforests and coral reefs to cold polar waters and mysterious sea depths. The "Healing Jellyfish" zone, where thousands of jellyfish drift in a mesmerizing dance of light and music, and the giant "Formosa" tank, showcasing the rich biodiversity of Taiwanese waters, are particularly popular.

Xpark is the first overseas branch of the famous Japanese Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise aquarium, reflecting the highest standards of animal care and exhibit quality. The total volume of all tanks reaches 2.3 million liters, with the largest one holding 1 million liters of water. This place is designed not only for entertainment but also for education—it sparks curiosity and inspires visitors to care for the environment, offering a unique "learning through play" experience.

What to Do

A visit to the Xpark aquarium is a true immersion into a world where advanced technology meets nature. Guests can expect 13 themed exhibition zones, each recreating a unique ecosystem. The entire journey through the aquarium is accompanied by impressive lighting design and music specifically composed by the famous composer Joe Hisaishi, creating an incredible atmosphere. The pride of the aquarium is the "Formosa" zone, where a giant tank showcases the rich marine life characteristic of Taiwan's waters. Here, you can watch thousands of fish for hours, including rare species such as the unusual Cyclichthys fish with blue eyes.

The interactive experience at Xpark goes beyond simple observation. Visitors can witness regular animal feeding shows, allowing them to see marine life at its most active. Additionally, the aquarium has zones where you can get a closer look at penguins, jellyfish, and even seals. The "Healing Jellyfish" hall is especially popular, where thousands of these creatures float in a space with mirrored walls and a ceiling, creating a sense of infinity. For the smallest and most curious guests, there are interactive displays and even a zone where you can touch some marine inhabitants under the supervision of specialists.

In addition to the entertainment component, Xpark places a strong emphasis on education. Programs dedicated to marine conservation and the protection of its inhabitants are regularly held here. Visitors can not only enjoy the beauty of the underwater world but also learn about the importance of preserving it for future generations. This makes a visit to Xpark not just an exciting walk, but an educational adventure for the whole family.

Getting There

Getting to the Xpark aquarium is quite simple thanks to its convenient location in the Qingpu District of Taoyuan City, near the city of Zhongli. The aquarium is part of the large Landmark Plaza complex, making it easily accessible for visitors. Since it is located in close proximity to a major transportation hub, tourists have several convenient options to get here.

The fastest and most convenient way is by public transport. The aquarium is just an 8–10 minute walk from the High-Speed Rail (HSR) Taoyuan Station. You can also take the Taoyuan Airport MRT and get off at A18 HSR Taoyuan Station. History & Facts

Despite being relatively young, Xpark aquarium, which opened in August 2020, has already established itself as an important place for both entertainment and science and ecology. It was created through a collaboration between the Taiwan branch of the Japanese company Yokohama Hakkeijima and the city authorities, quickly becoming a significant center for marine fauna conservation and education in Taiwan. Its history is an example of how a modern approach can quickly bring significant results.

From the very beginning, Xpark has been actively involved in environmental activities. In 2022, the aquarium participated in the "Environmental Education Theme Exhibition" organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau. In 2023, its contribution to nature conservation became even more noticeable: in April, the aquarium supported National Geographic's global "Animal Ark" project, and later that same year, in collaboration with the Taoyuan City Government, it founded the Sea Turtle Conservation Center. These initiatives highlight Xpark's mission to protect and study marine ecosystems.

The aquarium's efforts and contributions have not gone unnoticed at the state level. In November 2023, Xpark and its management company received a prestigious award from the President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen, at the "Taiwan Investment Summit 2023." Just a few days later, on December 1, Vice President Lai Ching-te acknowledged their achievements at an event dedicated to the work of the Marine Animal Rescue Network (MARN). Such recognition confirms the high status and importance of the work carried out by the aquarium in the city of Zhongli.

Time Needed

When planning your visit to Xpark aquarium, you should expect that a full tour will take on average from 2 to 4 hours. This time is usually enough to explore all 13 themed zones located on three floors without rushing. This timeframe will allow you not only to see the main exhibits but also to fully enjoy the atmosphere of this unique place in the city of Zhongli.

The actual time you spend in the aquarium may vary. If you are traveling with children or plan to attend one of the animal feeding shows, it's worth allowing extra time. Each educational performance lasts about 15–20 minutes. It's also worth considering that in some zones, such as the jellyfish hall or by the giant "Formosa" panoramic tank, you might want to stay longer. For a leisurely visit, including a break at the cafe with a view of the penguins, it is better to aim for the upper limit—about 4 hours—to get the most out of your visit to this corner of Taiwan.

Working Hours

Xpark aquarium is open to visitors year-round, but opening hours may vary depending on the day of the week and the season. The standard schedule is Sunday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and on Saturdays and holidays from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Last entry is allowed one hour before closing, so plan your visit in advance to have time to see all the exhibits.

To avoid long queues, especially on weekends and holidays, it is highly recommended to buy tickets online in advance. This will save you time and guarantee entry, as the number of tickets available on-site during peak hours may be limited. Since schedules can change, it is always a good idea to check the latest information on the aquarium's official website before your trip.
