Shopping in Kamianets-Podilskyi is not so much about chasing brands and high fashion as it is an exciting search for authentic souvenirs and immersion in local flavor. The city does not claim to be a shopping capital, so you won't find huge galleries with luxury boutiques here. However, this is more than compensated for by the charm of small shops in the historical center, where you can buy unique handmade items and memorabilia soaked in the spirit of the Middle Ages.
The main shopping activity for tourists is, of course, concentrated in the Old Town. Walking along the cobblestones from the Town Hall to the fortress, you will encounter many retail outlets. In the new part of the city, beyond the Novoplanivskyi Bridge, the main shopping artery is Soborna Street and Hrushevskyi Avenue. Here life flows at a more modern pace: there are clothing and electronics stores, pharmacies, banks, and supermarkets where locals do their daily shopping.
If you need to buy household items, goods for tourism, or just visit a large modern store, you should pay attention to Epicentr. This is the largest retail facility in the city, combining a huge range of products under one roof—from batteries and picnic gear to home goods. Although it is a chain hypermarket, for travelers it often becomes a lifesaver when urgent purchases are needed.
The city's markets deserve separate attention, as this is where you can feel the true taste of Podillya. The most colorful place is the souvenir market ("Souvenir Town"), located in the immediate vicinity of the fortress. Here, under the open sky, masters display their work: ceramics, vyshyvankas (embroidered shirts), and wood and leather products. The historical commercial heart of the city is considered the Polish Market—the central square of the Old Town. Although today it serves more as a place for walks and festivals, bustling fairs with street food and handicrafts unfold here during holidays.
As for souvenirs, it is customary to bring not only magnets with the image of the castle from Kamianets-Podilskyi. Pay attention to traditional Podolian embroidery and ceramics. Since the city has a rich medieval history, stylized "knightly" attributes are popular: wooden swords, bows, and maces. Foodies should definitely pick up a bottle of local fruit and berry wine. A great place to choose such a gift is the Berry Wine shop-bar, where you can taste and buy unique drinks made from local fruits and berries.
Most shops in the city center are open from 09:00–10:00 to 19:00–20:00. Large grocery supermarkets in the new part of the city are open until 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM. In souvenir shops and markets, the main means of payment remains cash in hryvnia, so we recommend withdrawing money from an ATM in advance. In regular stores, shopping centers, and most restaurants, bank cards are accepted without problems.
The Tax Free system (VAT refund) exists in Ukraine, but it is practically not represented in Kamianets-Podilskyi. Shops participating in this program are more often found in large shopping centers in Kyiv or Lviv. Therefore, when making purchases in local souvenir shops or markets, you should not count on a tax refund.
