In a picturesque corner of the ancient city of Uzhhorod lies a unique monument of landscape art — the Botanical Garden of Uzhhorod National University. This green expanse, covering about 4.5 hectares, is a living open-air museum set across three terraces above the Uzh River with an impressive elevation gain. Ukraine is rightfully proud of this site, which holds the status of national importance.

The garden surprises with its biodiversity: it houses more than 3,800 plant species. The territory is cleverly divided into geographical sectors where you can see flora from the Caucasus, China, Central Asia, and America. Special attention is given to the local flora of Transcarpathia, including rare species like the Hungarian lilac. Fans of ornamental gardening will enjoy the rich collections of roses, lilies, and chrysanthemums, which turn the garden into a vibrant carpet during the blooming season.
One of the main highlights is the greenhouse complex. It recreates tropical and subtropical climates, allowing for the cultivation of bananas, papaya, eucalyptus, and even 10 species of palms. The cactus collection boasts over 250 species, making a visit to the garden interesting at any time of year, regardless of the weather outside.
