Free parking is provided for visitors directly on the complex grounds.

The journey to opening the center began in 2006 at the initiative of Fort Bend County residents who dreamed of a branch of the famous Children's Museum Houston. To test demand, temporary summer "pop-up" sites were organized in 2007 and 2008. The success was overwhelming: more than 21,000 people visited each site during the six weeks of operation, which finally confirmed the need for a permanent educational space.

The site's architectural heritage deserves special attention. The museum is located in the Char House, built in the 1950s on the grounds of the historic Imperial Sugar refinery, which had operated there since the 1840s. The renovation of the old industrial building was carried out by M. Arthur Gensler, Jr & Associates. The architects managed to completely update the interior while preserving the historic spirit of the place and significantly reducing construction waste during the process.

The Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center officially opened its doors to the first visitors on May 28, 2016. The project was realized thanks to large-scale support from local foundations and corporations. Today, it is not just a museum but a recognized educational hub, having received the prestigious ENR Texas & Louisiana Regional Best Project Award for outstanding interior solutions.

To allow a child to calmly explore all six interactive exhibits and play to their heart's content, it is recommended to set aside 2 to 4 hours for the visit. This is the optimal time for a thoughtful introduction to the displays without rushing.
